Abstract

In a break spinning machine consecutive spinning stations S2, S3 &c. are served by two rows of winding units, consecutive winding units in each row serving alternate spinning stations. Each spinning station has two boffins 19, 19' driven by a roller 35. Yarn is wound on either bobbin and when a package is completed is transferred to the other bobbin either by an arrangement as described in Patent Specification No. 1,139,695 or a device as shown in Fig. 4. The device of Fig. 4 comprises two reciprocating yarn guides 48 and 48' carried by a rod 121 which build up the package. Yarn is transferred from one bobbin to the other by the unit S4 being traversed by means of a pneumatic ram (not shown). As the unit S4 moves across a guide pin 62' lifts the yarn from the guide 48' and carries it across to where it runs up slope S2 to engage yarn guide 48. As the yarn is carried across it is picked up by a hooked mat 63 which winds on the first few turns. A bar 65 tilts forward to allow initial threading up into slots 58 and 59 through a slot 156. Yarn between bobbins is cut by a knife (not shown) and the full package is doffed by depressing a foot pedal 42, see Fig. 3 (not shown) which pulls a wire rope (44, 44') to disengage the package from the roller 35 by tilting a mounting arm (31, 31') against a spring (33, 33'). Even package winding is ensured by dampers (47, 47').
