Abstract

1383173 Donning and doffing MAREMONT CORP 2 Feb 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53700/71 Heading D1D Bobbin tube graspers are actuated to allow empty bobbin tubes to align themselves vertically under gravity while they are held by the graspers and before they are dropped onto spindles. Graspers 28, Fig. 1, are inserted into the open, upper ends of tubes B, are inflated with air to grip the tubes, are raised with the tulbes to a vertical position above spindles 18, and are deflated at a rate which allows the tubes to align themselves vertically under gravity before dropping onto the spindles. Gripper support bar 22 is stored beneath spindle rail 16 and is movable by lifters 59 supported on tube 30 which is rotatable about its axis by hydraulic jacks to enable the bar 22 to clear rail 16. Tube 30, Fig. 2, encloses hydraulic jack 50 used to draw lifter bar 60 towards lifter bar 62 to raise bar 22. Jack 50 moves bar 60 via rod 52 and brackets 54 whose extensions 54' connected to bar 60 extend through tube slots sealed by resilient flaps. Full bobbins are doffed by the same grippers. Conveyor 24 carries empty and full bobbins on pegs. A photoelectric detector, comprising light source 74 and detector 76, stops the doffing when it detects an undoffed bobbin. Each spindle has a magnetic bobbin seating attachment 19. Control circuits for effecting automatic donning and doffing are described.
