Abstract

1,040,501. Centrifugal pumps. W. MURRAY. Feb. 19, 1965 [Feb. 7, 1964], No. 5331/64. Heading F1C. The end of the pump diffuser 12 is closed save for a restricted outlet orifice provided by a plate 13. Preferably, the orifice wall 14 is conical or flared and contracts towards the delivery end. By the use of an orifice of appropriate size, the delivery pressure is reduced to the desired value. Cavitation effects and noise are also reduced. Preferably, the distance between the tips of the impeller blades 8 and the peripheral wall 10 of the pump casing is greater than usual.
