Abstract

1,090,701. Waveguide couplings. PORTCHESTER INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1965 [Jan. 21, 1965], No. 37997/65. Heading H1W. A waveguide solderless coupling comprises a loose collar 10 and a coupling element 20 both fitting snugly over a rectangular waveguide 30. The loose collar 10 is secured to the waveguide by means of grub screws threaded into holes 11 and the element 20 is secured to the loose collar by pins 14 extending into threaded holes 12, 26. A sealing 0-ring 15, e.g. of silicone rubber, is interposed between the two elements. As shown, element 20 is a coupling flange and is provided with choke slots 35, 36. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), element 20 is not flanged but is long enough to accommodate the ends of two waveguides (30, 130) both of which are provided with loose collars 10 secured to opposite end faces of the coupling element 20. The rectangular bore of the coupling element is provided with an internal, central, transverse flange having a height equal to the thickness of the waveguide walls. The ends of the waveguides abut this flange. Choke slots are provided on either side of the flange.
