Abstract

938,004. Waveguides. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. June 19, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 39610/60. Class 40 (8). A waveguide transformer consists of a number of quarter-wave sections A-F of rectangular waveguide of progressively increasing cross-sectional dimensions and progressive angular displacements. In the example shown, a square waveguide A is matched to a rectangular waveguide F by intermediate sections B, C, D, E, the longest cross-sectional dimension being held constant throughout the transition. The values of the reflection coefficients at the junctions may be proportional to the coefficients of a binomial series and the length of each section may differ physically from a quarterwavelength by an amount determined by the susceptance introduced at its junctions. Sections A, B may contain mode filters. The transformer may be made by casting.
