Abstract

1,085,752. Ships' ports. J. H. MOHR, K. A. GIAEVER-ENGER, E. STORNAUG, and E. ODLAND. Sept. 16, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 37770/64. Heading B7S. A port in a ship's side is covered by a door 10 hinged about a horizontal axis to form a loading ramp, and movable vertically to accommodate varying quay heights. As described, the door is provided at its lower comers with guide bolts running in vertical groves 51, and is raised vertically and tilted by cables 40, 30 respectively which pass over pulleys 42, 32 to block-and-tackle arrangements (Fig. 3, not shown) connected to hydraulic rams, operation of which therefore moves the cables and the door. The grooves 51 have notches in which the guide bolts may rest to hold the door in its closed position, seals being provided around the door and door-frame and held together by toggle fastenings (Fig. 6-9, not shown). The notches may be blanked off by shoes slidable in them to eject the bolts. The port is disposed at the level of the shelter deck (18, Fig. 1, not shown) which has separately hinged portions (24, 25) to permit access to the main deck 19.
