Abstract

1,021,782. Cold cathode tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 5, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1964], No. 747/64. Heading H1D. In a gas-filled excess voltage protector, each of the electrodes 10, 11 has a portion b of reduced cross-section extending from a point short of its face c to a point within the alumina ceramic spacer 4, to which is secured, by brazing to metallized surface portions, to the end cap 1 and the metal sleeve 3 which constitutes an earth electrode. The electrodes are centrally located by polygonal shoulders d, which permit the evacuation and gas-filling of the tube through a passage 12 in electrode 10, and the exhaust 'tube 13. The electrodes may be tubular, and may have spherical end faces which, together with tube 3, can be coated with thermionic activating material.
