Abstract
1312756 Gas discharge lamps INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 12 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971] 1440/72 Heading H1D A flash discharge lamp comprises an envelope 1 at the ends of which are gas reservoirs 4, 5 connected by a central bore 3 in which a pair of electrodes 7, 8 fit snugly and define a discharge gap 9, a passageway 20 being provided adjacent the periphery of each electrode to permit gas flow between the gap and the reservoirs. The passageway 20 can be at least one groove formed in either the electrodes or the envelope. The electrodes can consist of pure tungsten sections 12, 13 and arcing sections 14, 15 joined by platinum at 16 and 17. The cathode can include 1 to 5% thoria and the electrode tips can be coated with glass and a flame sprayed ceramic coating. The envelope can be quartz, sapphire, polycrystalline alumina or yttrium oxide and the reservoirs can be metal. The filling is xenon with possibly an alkali vapour at 450 to 550 mm. Hg.
