Abstract

1,274,393. Cold-cathode tubes. SIEMENS A.G. 1 Sept., 1970 [2 Sept., 1969], No, 41751/70. Heading H1D. In a surge voltage diverter comprising two electrodes 1, 2, one of which projects into a recess in the other, each of said electrodes or a member attached thereto surrounds and is attached to a ceramic body 3 through an interposed glass layer 6. In the arrangement shown the ceramic body 3 is stepped to provide surfaces 7 forming with the electrode 1 and a terminal cap attached to electrode 2 annular grooves 13 in which the ceramic-glass-metal seals 6 are located and shielded from the discharge space 4. An auxiliary ignition electrode 5 may be provided on the end of the ceramic body 3 facing the electrode 1. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) annular depressions around the peripheries of two dished metal members supporting the electrodes are sealed to each end of an annular ceramic insulating body by fused ceramic-glass-metal seals.
