Abstract

1319042 Cold cathode tubes SIEMENS AG 20 Jan 1972 [22 Jan 1971] 2708/72 Heading HID A cold cathode tube comprises a pair of symmetrically arranged main electrodes 1, 2 in an insulating housing 3 having a control electrode 4 on its external surface, and each of the opposed surfaces of the main electrodes has a metal ring 6 forming a hollow electrode carrying a layer 7 of activating material. The rings 6 may be stamped from iron and have sharp edges to promote ignition. A radio-active source may enhance ionization in the tube.
