Abstract

Combining the functions of a window board and a fixed window frame, the fitting uses four planks (9,7,8) mounted over the sides, the head and the sill of a window opening respectively. Each plank (7,8,9) may be of timber, may be of a horizontally elongated rectangular section, or may have parallel bevelled edges (13,14). The latter form may be used to obtain window openings which taper to give an increased external opening area, including grooves locating check rails (17) for an opening window light (5). Rear face grooves (15) may house the edges of plasterboards (16) or similar internal wall liners, and set back strips (15) with triangular ribbing may provide a mortar key whilst forming a sill drip. For openings in thicker walls the boards may be used with externally mounted assymetric 'U' section casing.
