Definitions
- the present invention relates to a mobile computer unit, in particular a personal digital assistant (PDA).
- PDAs with an integrated radio module require an antenna that was previously designed as an external antenna.
- the antenna has so far been rigidly connected to the housing of the PDA and protrudes from the housing, usually on the upper side of the housing. Since, when using a PDA, input is usually made via the keyboard, the PDA is preferably flat on a surface, such as a table, at this time. This is the most common working position of a PDA. However, in this position there is an antenna that is at
- PDAs with an integrated radio module is essential, often very inefficient.
- the surface or the work surface on which the PDA rests can, depending on its nature, have an absorbing, reflecting and / or distorting effect on the antenna field, which can be associated with poor radio transmission.
- the antenna which usually protrudes from the side of the housing, is only a very small distance parallel to the work surface or to the base of the PDA in the most frequently mentioned working position of the PDA. This could result in very poor antenna efficiency. This is mainly caused by the detuning of the resonance frequency of the antenna, which reduces the range of the radio connection and possibly also increases the current consumption of the transmission output stage. In addition, there is therefore none Radiation characteristic in all directions, ie no omnidirectional radiation characteristic of the antenna. Only an omnidirectional radiation pattern, for example a dipole, offers the possibility to receive all base stations equally well from different directions in a direct way. An antenna aligned parallel to the table surface radiates up and down in large parts.
- An object of the invention was to provide a mobile computer unit with an antenna, the antenna having the highest possible efficiency and an improved radiation characteristic in the typical application.
- a mobile computer unit in particular a personal digital assistant (PDA)
- PDA personal digital assistant
- the computer unit contains an integrated radio unit, at least one antenna and a housing for receiving the radio unit with a lower housing part and a cover, the antenna being integrated in the housing.
- an integration of the antenna into the housing of the mobile computer unit means that the antenna forms a unit with the housing in accordance with the external appearance of the computer unit, ie the antenna does not protrude from the housing or protrudes from the housing ,
- the antenna can, for example, both be arranged inside the housing and applied to it, for example glued on.
- the antenna is preferably integrated in the cover of the housing.
- the lid of the mobile computing unit preferably the PDA, is opened when the mobile computing unit is used, as a result of which the antenna, which is preferably integrated in the lid, comes into a vertical position. It can therefore achieve high efficiency.
- the cover is preferably connected to the radio unit of the PDA via electrical high-frequency lines.
- the cover is preferably mechanically attached to the lower housing part by means of one or more hinges which are suitably arranged, preferably on the sides of the cover and / or the lower housing part of the mobile computing unit, preferably the PDA.
- at least one of the hinges which mechanically connect the cover to the lower housing part is designed as an electrical high-frequency line.
- these are preferably coaxial connectors and corresponding coaxial sockets. These offer a low-attenuation, fully shielded cable for the antenna.
- the electrical connection can also be a coaxial or a planar radio frequency line made of a flexible circuit board material. There is no need for a mechanical contact point that is susceptible to wear. The reliability of the antenna contact is thus improved.
- the antenna is designed as a printed structure. This can be produced using a single or multilayer technique. Large-area antennas can be used to produce broadband antennas, for example patch antennas, spiral antennas or fractal antennas, which are less sensitive to external influences. Mono-band or multi-band antennas can be integrated using dipoles in an elongated, meandering, spiral or angled design. Such an embodiment of the antenna is inexpensive and simple to manufacture.
- Another advantage of the present invention is the fact that the built-in antenna for integration into the • casing of the mobile computing device to the outside is not visible, which provides a very good integration into the design of the entire computer unit, ie choice of design must Antenna in the external appearance of the computer unit are not taken into account.
- the antenna is not an obstacle that protrudes laterally from the housing.
- a plurality of antennas are provided. It is therefore very easy to cover several frequency bands and / or several broadband frequency ranges at the same time. Furthermore, the antenna can have several radiating Have structures, whereby a multi-band antenna with more than two bands is realized. The antenna in all its dimensions can be adapted to the different

- the antenna according to the invention can be implemented on a PCB (printed circuit board). Furthermore, it can be produced from a sheet metal by means of a stamping and bending technique or can be designed as a metallized film.
- a sheet metal for example, flexible, flexible plastic material, in particular film made of polycarbonate or polyetherimide, is used.
- a conductor track which represents a radiator or any other electrical element, can be structured on each layer.
- the structuring can be generated using various technologies known from selective structuring in the so-called MID applications.
- the full-surface metallization with subsequent laser structuring, the application of a primer varnish for metallization by masking or pad printing (Boymetec process) and subsequent metallization should be mentioned in particular.
- Metallization here means the chemical deposition and / or galvanic deposition of metals.
- Another variant is e.g. B. the printing of a conductive lacquer by stamp, tampon or screen printing.
- the antenna according to the invention can be implemented using MID technology (Molded Interconnected Device).
- the material on which the structure is applied in the case of PCB and MID technology can be freely selected. It is preferably suitable for high frequencies. It can also be pliable flexible Be material, which allows adaptation to housing or device contours.
- Figure 1 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a mobile computing unit according to the invention.
- a mobile computing unit 1 is shown in FIG. It is preferably a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
- the mobile computer unit 1 has an integrated radio unit 2, an antenna 3 and a housing 4 for receiving the radio unit 2.
- the housing 4 in turn comprises a lower housing part 5 and a cover 6.
- the lower housing part 5 accommodates the radio unit 2.
- the antenna 3 is integrated in the cover 6.
- the antenna 3 can be arranged inside the cover 6 or applied to the cover 6. In the present example, the antenna 3 is meandering.
- the cover 6 is mechanically connected to the lower housing part 5 'by means of at least one hinge -7.
- the at least one hinge 7 is preferably designed as an electrical high-frequency line, preferably as a coaxial high-frequency line. This ensures a low-attenuation, completely shielded feed line to the antenna 3.
- the at least one hinge 7 is preferably designed such that the cover 6 can be fixed in the most favorable position with regard to the antenna efficiency while the mobile computer unit 1 is being used.

Description
Beschreibung
Mobile Rechnereinheit
Rechnereinheit angepasste Platzoptimierung erfolgt .
