Au moment de l'utilisation de ce type de repères, l'utilisateur doit, avec un outil approprié détaché le repère de la réglette en arrachant les points d'attache liant solidairement le repère à sa réglette. L'utilisateur doit donc appliquer sur le repère, à l'aide de son outil, une traction combinée à un mouvement de rotation pour réussir à rompre lesdits points d'attache. Il arrive cependant que l'outil tourne à l'intérieur du repère pendant le mouvement d'arrachage. Il est alors difficile de rompre les points d'attache.
