Abstract

The process involves injection moulding the identification strip in a single piece as a strip with identification tags attached to a longitudinal edge of the strip by regions of reduced resistance (3). The next stage of fabrication has a machine that bends the tags through ninety degrees about the line of reduced resistance, then breaks them away from the edge of the strip. The separated tags are then inserted in corresponding mountings (8) formed in the moulding of the strip. In the third stage of fabrication the marking tags are printed using a rotating print roller. The strip is automatically advanced.

Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a bar carrying cable marking rings. It also relates to the bar and the marking rings obtained by this process.

In the field of electrical wiring, it is known to use marking rings to identify cables. These rings are generally provided on a support bar, which can group, for example, rings whose marking is identical. To facilitate the transport and storage of these bars, there are boxes or binders provided with grooves arranged to receive said bars and position them, preferably, to easily visualize the markings provided on the rings.

European publication No. 479 668 describes a strip detachably bearing marks, the strip and marks being made in one piece from injected synthetic material. These marks are then printed and the strip is stored in a corresponding filing cabinet. When using this type of marker, the user must, with an appropriate tool, detach the marker from the strip by tearing off the attachment points connecting the marker solidly to his strip. The user must therefore apply to the mark, using his tool, traction combined with a rotational movement to succeed in breaking said attachment points. However, sometimes the tool turns inside the mark during the tear-off movement. It is therefore difficult to break the attachment points. Consequently, it is clear that this type of markers cannot be removed instantaneously and that the user spends precious time detaching each mark from his strip.

The present invention proposes to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above by proposing a bar removably carrying marking rings so as to facilitate the removal of said rings while ensuring good retention of the rings in said bar, this bar and these rings being made beforehand in one piece.

This object is achieved by a method of manufacturing a bar carrying marking rings characterized in that it comprises the following two manufacturing phases:
  • injection molding in a single piece of a strip and a plurality of marking rings, the rings being connected to a longitudinal edge of said strip by connecting lines of less resistance,
  • positioning of the rings in the bar by continuous mechanical means providing for the tilting of the rings by 90 ° around the said connecting lines on the said bar, the separation of the rings by breaking the said connecting lines and the insertion of the free rings in housings corresponding holding formed on said strip.

According to a preferred embodiment, to carry out the second manufacturing phase, a 90 ° helical ramp is used which is arranged to tilt the rings on the bar and a positioning ramp which is arranged to exert a thrust on said rings so as to separate them from the bar and insert them into their corresponding housing.

The manufacturing process may include a third manufacturing phase in which the marking rings are printed continuously, by means of a rotary printing roller.

Preferably, the second and third manufacturing phases follow one another on a continuous production line and continuous advance means are provided in correspondence on said chain and on the bars carrying said rings.

The object mentioned above is also achieved by a bar as defined in the preamble and characterized in that it is made of a synthetic material injection molded in one piece with a plurality of rings, the latter being connected to a longitudinal edge of the bar by connecting lines of less resistance and in that the rings are then detached from the bar and inserted in a removable manner in holding housings provided on said bar.

In a preferred embodiment, it comprises a flat base on which the holding housings for said rings are formed.

The holding housings are advantageously defined by a plurality of grooves in relief, parallel, provided on said bar, two consecutive grooves delimiting a housing.

Preferably, each groove comprises in a front part at least one chamfer arranged to facilitate the positioning and the introduction of the ring into its corresponding housing while it is tilted on said bar.

Each housing may comprise two opposite projecting lateral edges defining two guide rails for the corresponding lateral edges of a ring and an alignment stop arranged to align said rings.

Each alignment stop can be defined by a narrowing of a rear part of the corresponding housing, this narrowing being obtainable by the extension of said projecting edges in the rear part of each housing.

In the preferred embodiment, the bar comprises, on the back of its flat base, successive teeth forming a rack arranged to cooperate with complementary means of transport associated with said production line.

The above-mentioned object is also achieved by a marking ring, consisting of a substantially cubic stud provided with a front face intended to receive a marking, on a rear face, of two walls lateral and a central through hole and characterized in that it is made of synthetic material injection molded in one piece with said strip, the ring being connected to a longitudinal edge of the strip by a connecting line of less resistance and in that it is then tilted on said bar, detached from it then inserted in a removable manner in a corresponding holding housing provided on this bar.

According to a preferred embodiment, it comprises two lateral grooves of shape complementary to the guide rails provided in a retaining housing formed on said strip.

The present invention and its advantages will appear more clearly in the following description of an exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a partial top view of a bar and of several marking rings during manufacture according to the method of the invention,
  • FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of FIG. 1 along the line II-II,
  • FIG. 3 is a partial top view of a bar and of several rings at the end of manufacture according to the method of the invention, and
  • Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of Figure 3 along the line IV-IV.

Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a bar 1 and marking rings 2 as made in one piece from synthetic material by an injection process or another suitable process. As illustrated, the rings 2 are connected perpendicularly to the bar 1, along one of its longitudinal edges by connecting lines 3 of less resistance.

The bar 1 has a flat base 4 supported by two longitudinal feet 5 and extended, on the longitudinal edge opposite to that carrying the rings 2, by an inclined tab 6 arranged to cooperate with a corresponding groove provided in a suitable storage cabinet or filing cabinet (not shown). The bar 1 comprises, on its flat base 4, projecting grooves 7 oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the bar 1, these grooves 7 defining between them holding housings 8 for said marking rings 2. Each groove 7 is disposed substantially between two rings 2 so that the housing 8 is in correspondence with one of these rings 1. These grooves 7 have in a front part a chamfer 7 ', breaking the sharp edges delimiting these grooves and thus facilitating the introduction and positioning of the ring 2 between two consecutive grooves when it is tilted on the flat base 4 of the bar 1. Without the presence of these chamfers 7 ′, the rings 2 would risk remaining attached to said sharp edges and could then not be put in place in their housing 8. Each groove 7 has on either side two projecting edges 9 parallel to said flat base 4 of the bar 1 and defining gu rails idage 10 for the corresponding lateral edges of the rings 2. In addition, the projecting edges 9 have, in a rear part, an extension 11 which narrows said housings 8 to form an alignment stop 12 of said rings 2 once mounted. To facilitate the insertion of the rings 2 in the housings 8, a front part of the projecting edges 7 is provided with a bevel 13. The bar 1 also has on one of its longitudinal feet 5 successive teeth 14 forming a rack 15. This rack 15 is used in the context of the manufacturing process, in particular as means for automatically advancing bars 1 on a continuous transport chain provided with complementary transport means, such as successive sprockets, a chain provided with drive pins, a toothed belt, etc.

The rings 2 comprise a stud 16 of substantially cubic shape having a front face 17 intended to receive a marking 17 ′, a rear face 18, two side walls 19 and a central through hole 20. The side walls 19 are provided with a groove 21 of shape complementary to that of the rails 10 formed by the projecting edges 9 of the grooves 7 provided on the bar 1. The rings 2 have a chamfer 22 on an edge of their rear face 18 which facilitates the subsequent mounting of the ring in an appropriate marker carrier . The central through hole 20 provided in the ring 2 allows the introduction of an appropriate tool (not shown) for removing said marking ring 2 and introducing it into said marker carrier (not shown).

Figures 3 and 4 illustrate the bar 1 and the marking rings 2 corresponding to the previous figures, the rings 2 being separated from the bar 1 and removably mounted in the holding housings 8. These rings 2 are aligned by means of the stops 12 provided in the housings 8. To pass from the configuration of FIGS. 1 and 2 to that of FIGS. 3 and 4, the manufacturing process provides for example the use of a fixed helical ramp, which describes an angle of 90 ° and which is arranged to tilt the rings 2 on the flat base 4 of the bar 1 around their connecting line 3. A fixed positioning ramp, provided following the helical ramp, is arranged to exert a thrust on the rings 2 allowing to detach them from the bar 1 by breaking the connecting lines 3, to move them transversely to insert them in their respective housing 8. This manufacturing phase is carried out continuously, the bar 1 moving on a transport chain by means of a rack 15 provided on the back of the bar and cooperating with additional transport means provided on said chain.

The manufacturing process is advantageously supplemented by a continuous printing unit for the rings (not shown), in particular by means of a rotary hot-printing roller. The rotation of the roller is then adjusted in synchronism with the advance of the bar 1. At the end of printing, the bar 1 carrying said rings marked 2 can be stored in an appropriate box or file (not shown).

L'insertion de la bague 2 dans son porte-repère est facilitée par le chanfrein 22.During use, the operator responsible for locating an electrical circuit or a wiring selects the ring bars 1 which he needs in a box. Using his tool, he easily and quickly removes the rings marking 2 necessary and introduces them in a reference holder which will be mounted on the electric cable to be identified. To do this, he introduces the tool into the orifice 20 of the ring 2 on the side opposite to the alignment stop 12 so as to be able to disengage the ring 2 from its housing 8 by making it pivot by a rotational movement exerted with the tool. The insertion of the ring 2 into its reference carrier is facilitated by the chamfer 22.

The present invention is not limited to the embodiment described but extends to any modification and variant obvious to a person skilled in the art, the main thing being that the rings 2 are formed in one piece with said bar 1 and that they are then separated from the bar 1 and detachably held in an appropriate housing 8 provided on said bar 1. The shape of the rings 2 and of the housings 1 illustrated in the example described is not limiting, the essential being that the rings 2 can be maintained in housings 8 of complementary shape.
