Description

There are already known machines for cutting tiles, in particular earthenware. Such a machine is, for example, constituted by a frame comprising a flat bearing face of a tile to be cut, by at least one guide rail which extends parallel to said bearing face of the frame, which is spaced apart of this support face and which has a lower face parallel to said support face, and, by a cutting tool support, on which is effectively mounted a cutting tool, which is mounted on said rail to be pivotally guided relative to this rail parallel to a plane perpendicular to the support surface of the frame and parallel to the rail and which comprises a support member capable of being in contact with said underside of the rail so as to limit the movement of the tool support in the direction opposite to the support face of the frame and to allow a bracing and pivoting of this support towards this support face of the frame capable of generating a thrust of the tool cut to the tile to be cut and placed on the support face d u frame, between this bearing face and the guide rail.

- il est possible d'effectuer une coupe désirée soit en poussant l'outil de coupe, soit en le tirant, ceci, avant la présente invention, par des machines de coupe distinctes adaptées au travail en poussée ou en traction ;
- le choix du mode de coupe (en poussée, ou en traction) dépend essentiellement des usages antérieurs en vigueur dans la région considérée ;
The observation of the cutting work made it possible to highlight the following particularities:
- It is possible to make a desired cut either by pushing the cutting tool, or by pulling it, this, before the present invention, by separate cutting machines adapted to work in pushing or pulling;
- the choice of cutting mode (pushing, or pulling) depends essentially on the previous uses in force in the region considered;
- to date, when a manufacturer of tile cutting machines has to supply several separate markets, he must manufacture two different types of machines, some for pushing work, others for pulling work.

.These circumstances make it costly to manufacture the machines, since the study costs, production lines, shopping, etc.

The invention intends to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a new machine, as defined above, but supplemented so as to make it possible to operate in thrust and in traction without additional machining.

To this end, the tool support comprises at least two separate locations for fixing a support member to the underside of the rail, which, in the direction of the guide of the rail, are located on either side of the cutting tool.

- les deux dits emplacements de fixation d'un organe d'appui sont constitués, chacun, par un alésage dans lequel un arbre d'appui est susceptible d'être mis en place, cependant que ladite machine à couper les carreaux comprend un tel arbre unique, introduit, en service, dans l'un des deux alésages ;
Preferably, the following advantageous arrangements are also adopted:
- The two said fixing locations for a support member each consist of a bore in which a support shaft is capable of being put in place, while said machine for cutting tiles comprises such a shaft single, inserted, in service, in one of the two bores;
- The support comprises at least two recesses, which allow a first of these two recesses, the pivoting clearance around a first of said two locations for fixing a support member, the second recess, the pivoting clearance around the second fixing location, however, on the one hand, at least one particular fixing location of the two said fixing locations is contained in one of the two said recesses, on the other hand, the support member of the support is removably mounted at said particular fixing location.

The main advantage of the newly defined tile cutting machines lies, on the one hand, in the possibility of transforming, almost instantaneously, without additional machining, a machine allowing work in pushing into a machine allowing working in traction, on the other hand, in the need to undertake the manufacture of only one type of machine, therefore mass production, the differentiation of the machines being carried out at the time of assembly.

The invention will be better understood, and features secondary and their advantages will become apparent during the description of an embodiment given below by way of example.

- un bâti 1 comportant une face d'appui 2, plane, horizontale, orientée vers le haut, munie d'une arête saillante longitudinale médiane 3, de part et d'autre de laquelle sont disposées, collées à ladite face 2, deux bandes 4 d'un matériau souple, réalisée en mousse, susceptible de supporter un carreau de faïence 5, ou analogue ;
- deux mâts 6, qui sont érigés vers le haut à partir de la face d'appui 2 et ont leurs extrémités libres conformées en des fourches 7 à deux branches, dont les espaces intermédiaires contiennent le plan vertical V, perpendiculaire à la face d'appui 2 et passant par l'arête 3 ;
- une barre de guidage 8, de section rectangulaire, qui est supportée dans les fourches 7 d'extrémités des mâts 6 et y est fixée par des rivets 10, ou analogues, ladite barre 8 comportant une face horizontale inférieure 8a ;
The machine for cutting the earthenware tiles shown in the drawings consists of:
- A frame 1 having a support face 2, flat, horizontal, oriented upwards, provided with a median longitudinal protruding edge 3, on either side of which are arranged, glued to said face 2, two strips 4 of a flexible material, made of foam, capable of supporting an earthenware tile 5, or the like;
- two masts 6, which are erected upwards from the bearing face 2 and have their free ends shaped as forks 7 with two branches, the intermediate spaces of which contain the vertical plane V, perpendicular to the face of support 2 and passing through the edge 3;
- A guide bar 8, of rectangular section, which is supported in the forks 7 of the ends of the masts 6 and is fixed there by rivets 10, or the like, said bar 8 having a lower horizontal face 8 a ;
a support 11 of a wheel 12 for cutting earthenware tiles is provided with an internal recess opening out, in the direction D of its possible displacement, in one direction through an opening 13, in the opposite direction through an opening 14, and is mounted on the frame so as to be traversed by the guide bar 8, being surmounted by an operating handle 15.

Furthermore, at the lower part of the tool support 11 there is disposed a pusher 16 which extends on either side of the edge 3.

The axes of the bores 17 and 18 are further contained in vertical planes V17 and V18, respectively, which, whatever the position of the support 11 and the cutting wheel 12 in use, are placed so that said wheel 12 is disposed between said plans V17 and V18.

The machine of FIGS. 1 to 5 further comprises a shaft 20 introduced into the bore 18 and in pivoting support on the lower face 8 a of the guide bar 8. In FIGS. 1 to 3 and 5, the bore 17 does not receive any tree whereas in FIG. 4, a tree 21 is introduced there.

In each of these figures, the movement of the support 11 is carried out "in pushing" of the wheel 12 in the direction S1, under the effect of an action on the handle 15 both of direction S1 and of vertical support A oriented towards the support face 2 of the frame 1. The thicknesses E1, E4, E5 of the pane 5 of FIGS. 1, 4 and 5, respectively, are specified; E5 being greater than E4, which itself is greater than E1. Correlatively, it is noted that if, in these three figures, the shaft 20 has its upper edge bearing on the lower face 8 a of the guide bar 8, on the other hand the upper edge of the bore 17 is located, in Figure 1, below the face 8 a , in Figure 4, tangent to the face 8 a (the shaft 21 is supported on this face 8 a ), and, in Figure 5, above the underside 8 a . In this figure 5, the pivoting of the support 11 around the shaft 20 is limited by the bottom of the support 19 on the underside 8a of the bar 8. In Figures 1-5, the tile to be cut 5 is in abutment, by one of its edges, against the vertical face 9 a of the stop 9.

- dans chacune des figures, l'alésage 18 ne contient aucun arbre, alors que l'alésage 17 reçoit l'arbre 21 d'appui sur la face inférieure 8a de la barre de guidage 8 ;
- dans les figures 6 à 8, et dans la figure 10, l'alésage 18 est situé en-dessous de la face 8a de la barre de guidage 8, et l'épaisseur du carreau est E6, ou E10 égale à E6 ;
- dans la figure 9, l'alésage 18 est situé au-dessus de cette face 8a, l'épaisseur du carreau étant E9, supérieure à E6 (et à E10) ;
- dans cette figure 9, le pivotement du support 11 autour de l'arbre 21 est limité par l'appui du fond 19 sur la face inférieure 8a de la barre 8 ;
- dans chacune des figures 6 à 10, le déplacement du support 11 est réalisé en traction de la molette de coupe 12, dans le sens S2 opposé au sens S1 précédent, et par appui sur la poignée 15 dans la direction A ;
- la figure 10 se déduit de la figure 6 par la représentation de la poignée 15 et du support 11 symétrique par rapport à un plan vertical transversal T, perpendiculaire à la face d'appui 2 et à la face inférieure 8a de la barre 8 (d'où l'égalité des épaisseurs E6 et E10) ;
- naturellement, la figure 4 représente une disposition intermédiaire entre celle des figures 6 et 9, de sorte que E9 est supérieure à E4, qui est supérieure à E6 ; pour que la figure 4 soit réellement intermédiaire entre la figure 6 et 9, il faut y ajouter la représentation (en traits interrompus) du sens S2 de la traction ;
In Figures 6 to 10, we find the same elements as those already defined, with however the following specific provisions:
- In each of the figures, the bore 18 contains no shaft, while the bore 17 receives the shaft 21 bearing on the underside 8 a of the guide bar 8;
- In Figures 6 to 8, and in Figure 10, the bore 18 is located below the face 8 a of the guide bar 8, and the thickness of the pane is E6, or E10 equal to E6;
- in Figure 9, the bore 18 is located above this surface 8a, the thickness of the tile being E9 greater than E6 (and E10);
- in this Figure 9, the pivoting of the support 11 around the shaft 21 is limited by the support base 19 on the underside 8a of the bar 8;
- In each of FIGS. 6 to 10, the movement of the support 11 is carried out by pulling the cutting wheel 12, in the direction S2 opposite to the preceding direction S1, and by pressing on the handle 15 in the direction A;
- Figure 10 is deduced from Figure 6 by the representation of the handle 15 and of the support 11 symmetrical with respect to a transverse vertical plane T, perpendicular to the bearing face 2 and to the lower face 8 a of the bar 8 (hence the equality of the thicknesses E6 and E10 );
- Naturally, FIG. 4 represents an intermediate arrangement between that of FIGS. 6 and 9, so that E9 is greater than E4, which is greater than E6; so that FIG. 4 is really intermediate between FIGS. 6 and 9, it is necessary to add to it the representation (in dashed lines) of the direction S2 of the traction;
- in FIGS. 6 to 9, the face 9 a of the stop 9 is oriented in the same direction as the direction S2 of the traction, while, in FIG. 10, the face 9 a is oriented in the direction opposite to the direction S2 of traction.

The operation obtained is described below. When the user chooses to push the cutting wheel 12 (Figures 1 to 3; Figure 4; Figure 5), he presses the handle, on the one hand in the direction of arrow A, which puts the axis 20 on the lower face 8 a of the guide bar 8 and said wheel 12 on the upper face 5 a of the pane 5, and on the other hand, and simultaneously, in the direction of the arrow S1.

In the case where no shaft is introduced into the bore 17 (FIGS. 1 to 3, and, FIG. 5), and taking into account the fact that the bore 17 (like the bore 18, also) is disposed at a certain non-zero distance from the bottom 19 of the recess of the support 12, the maximum thickness E5 of the tiles that can be cut is limited only by the support of the bottom 19 of the recess on the underside 8 a of the guide bar 8 (Figure 5). On the other hand, when a shaft 21 is inserted in the bore 17 (FIG. 4), the maximum thickness of the tiles which can be cut, equal to E4, is reached when the two shafts 20 and 21 are supported on said underside 8a of the guide rail 8 (the cut is performed by pushing or pulling, for that matter). E4 being less than E5, it may then be advantageous to provide the removable shaft 21 in said bore 17 in order to allow cutting to the thickness E5. An advantageous way of making this arrangement is to provide only a single shaft which is either introduced into the bore 18 for cutting in thrust (FIGS. 1 to 5), or else is introduced into the bore 17 for the section in tension (Figures 6 to 10), leaving the possibility of the bottom support 19 of the recess, on the side of the opening (13 or 14) opposite to that near which the bore is located ( 18 or 17) containing said single shaft, on the underside 8 a of the guide bar 8.

The section in traction (FIGS. 6 to 10) and, FIG. 4 - direction S2) is carried out in a similar manner to what has just been described, the support 11 pivoting this time around the shaft 21, which is introduced into the bore 17 and which is supported on the underside 8 a . The maximum thickness of the tiles that can be cut is reached, or when, a shaft 20 being inserted in the bore 18 (FIG. 4), this shaft 20 and the shaft 21 are both bearing on the face 8 a , l 'thickness being equal to E4 (Figure 4), or when the bottom 19 of the recess is supported on the underside 8 a , no shaft being inserted in the bore 17 (Figure 9), and the thickness then being equal to E9 (greater than E4).

It should be observed that in push cutting (Figures 1 to 5), the support shaft 20 of the support 12 on the underside 8 a is arranged in the plane V18 always located in front of the cutting wheel 12 by with respect to the direction S1 of the thrust (and to the direction of movement of said wheel 12). In section by traction (Figures 6 to 10, and, Figure 4 S2 direction), the support shaft 21 of the support 12 on the underside 8 a is disposed in the plane V17, also always located in front of the wheel 12 relative to the direction S2 of the traction (and to the direction of movement of the wheel 12).

The frame 1 is provided with a single stop 9, so that if, in the push cut (Figures 1 to 5), the movement of the thumbwheel in the direction S1 tends to keep the pane 5 on the face 9 a of the stop, in the pull cut (Figures 6 to 9, and Figure 4 S2 direction), the movement of the wheel in the S2 direction tends to move the pane 5 of said face 9 a of the stop. The corresponding effort is low and the user has no difficulty in holding the tile in position during its cutting. However, it can, if desired, to ensure that the tractive force tends to keep supporting the tile on the face 9a of the stop: the relevant provision is that of Figure 10, which is obtained very simply threading the guide bar 8, detached from at least one of the forks 7, into the recess of the support 11 in the opposite direction to that of the other configurations.

In known manner, the pusher 16 cooperates with the edge 3 to break the pane 5 along its cutting line, after its cutting.

The invention is not limited to the embodiment described, but on the contrary covers all the variants which could be made to it without departing from its scope or its spirit.
