Definitions
- the invention is based on a high-pressure discharge lamp according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a lamp is known from EP-A 472 100.
- the bushing is made of niobium and inserted deep into the plug. It has been shown that the discharge arc remains in the glow phase for a very long time during the ignition of the lamp. The reason for this is that the discharge arc first starts in the recess of the stopper at the niobium bushing, specifically at the point at which the glass solder or the melting ceramic ends. Due to the high load, metallic niobium can be sputtered at this point, which leads to the blackening of the discharge vessel at an early stage.
- An additional disadvantage is that this mechanism also affects the seal can be damaged by damaging the glass solder. The latter leads to the leakage of the discharge vessel and thus to a shortening of the service life.
- JP-GM 49-14449 a metal halide discharge lamp with a ceramic discharge vessel is known, in which a shield in the form of a circular quartz glass plate is fitted directly behind the electrode, thereby preventing the arc from attaching to the electrode shaft and, as a result, damaging the glass solder melt becomes.
- fixing the plate is problematic.
- the electrode shaft is made of a sleeve made of high-melting material as a shield surround.
- a sleeve made of high-melting material As a shield surround.
- ceramic Al2O3
- quartz glass, hard glass or high-melting metal eg tungsten
- the sleeve is preferably fitted into a recess on the discharge side, in particular a blind hole or a bore, of the stopper and is thereby fixed.
- the deepening may also serve to start the implementation.
- a sleeve made of metal can be formed in particular by a compact spiral, the turns of which touch.
- the sleeve advantageously closes on the discharge side on the electrode head.
- This can be, for example, a helix or a ball. Since the electrode head is widened compared to the electrode shaft, it forms a natural stop for the sleeve, which is thereby fixed. In addition, the electrode shaft is then completely covered by the sleeve, so that the discharge arc cannot be attached to the shaft. However, this complete coverage of the shaft area located in the discharge volume is not absolutely necessary. There may also be a small gap near the head.
- the inner diameter of the sleeve is usually chosen so that it is approximately matched to the diameter of the electrode shaft. However, it can also be selected to be significantly larger than the shaft diameter. This is particularly advantageous if the electrode shaft does not attach bluntly to the feedthrough, but by means of a lateral extension piece. However, the inside diameter of the sleeve should advantageously be smaller than the transverse dimension of the electrode head in order to reliably prevent the arc from attaching to the electrode shaft.
- the diffuse discharge arc which initially forms when the lamp is ignited, cannot start any further back than at the rear end of the electrode head (generally a filament).
- the electrode tip is heated up more quickly, so that the discharge arc in turn attaches more quickly to the electrode tip. It also prevents the discharge arc from swinging back behind the electrode head and prevents premature blackening. Finally, related leaks in the bushing area are avoided.
- the stability of the burning voltage and the light values are additionally improved by setting the melting point to a temperature that is as low as possible. The idea behind this is that glass solder reacts considerably less with the halides of the lamp filling at low temperatures.
- the leadthrough in particular a niobium stick
- the sleeve fills most of the annular gap in the plug bore. In this way it is achieved that only a small amount of filling components can condense out in the plug bore.
- the hole can also be completely closed by glass solder so that the bushing is well shielded, especially if it consists of corrosion-prone niobium.
- the technique of withdrawn meltdown can be made even more extreme by using very long plugs that are quite out of the burner stand out far.
- the bushing (especially made of niobium) is only melted at the outer end of this stopper.
- the long annular gap towards the discharge can be filled very well with a ceramic tube that encases the electrode shaft.
- the remaining small cavities in the stopper area are filled up to a point in the discharge space where the temperature and vapor pressure are high enough to produce a vapor density sufficient for good light values.
- the condensed filling in the back of the stopper reacts little or not at all with glass solder and niobium because of the low temperature there.
- the ends of the discharge vessel are preferably closed with separate plugs. However, they can also have integral constrictions instead of separate plugs.
- the second bushing 9b is arranged at the second end 6b, which is designed as a blind end. Both bushings 9 consist of a solid niobium pin, which is inserted into the bore of the end plug.
- a filling bore 15 is provided near the pump end 6a, which is closed by a glass solder or a ceramic ceramic 16 after filling.
- a filling bore 15 is provided near the pump end 6a, which is closed by a glass solder or a ceramic ceramic 16 after filling.
- Another option is to use the opening for a feedthrough as a filling hole and then insert and seal the feedthrough in this opening.
- Fig. 2 shows the bushing area at one end of the discharge vessel in detail.
- the niobium pin 9 with a diameter of 1.2 mm is inserted in a ceramic plug 10 with a length of 5 mm and has a length of 12 mm.
- the electrode shaft 12 made of tungsten is butt-welded, its diameter is 0.5 mm and its length is 6.5 mm.
- the ceramic protective sleeve 17 is fixed between the helix 13 and niobium pin 9. Their outer diameter is 1.1 mm, their inner diameter 0.6 mm.
- the total length is 4 mm, of which a section (2 mm) is recessed in the bore of the plug 10, while the niobium pin 9 extends outwards over the remaining 60% of the bore.
- the correct insertion depth of the niobium pin is ensured by a stop located on the outside of the stopper, here a stop wire 18 made of niobium.
- the outside diameter of the plug is 3.3 mm and the diameter of the plug bore is 1.2 mm.
- a capillary remains between the bore wall and the niobium pin or ceramic sleeve sealed with glass solder 14 over the entire length of the bore.
- the niobium pin 9 and the ceramic sleeve 17 are melted together as one structural unit.
- the assembly (FIG. 3) is produced by first welding the electrode shaft 12 and the niobium pin 9 to one another butt. Then the sleeve 17 is pushed over the shaft 12, which either abuts the niobium pin 9 (FIG. 3a) or is pushed a short distance onto a filed attachment 19 of the niobium pin (FIG. 3b).
- the outer diameter of the niobium stick and the sleeve are approximately the same size.
- the sleeve is now fixed by pushing on the helix 13 (arrow).
- the glass solder 14 wets the niobium pin 9 and also the sleeve 17, so that the sleeve is also melted in the already existing plug bore (see FIG. 1).
- the discharge vessel 4 ' has tapered ends 6' according to FIG. 4.
- the plug 10 ' has an outer diameter of 5 mm and a length of 12 mm.
- the diameter of the plug bore is 1.2 mm.
- the stopper 10 ' is so far extended on its side facing away from the discharge that about 50% of it protrudes from the end 6' of the discharge vessel.
- a niobium pin 9 with a diameter of 1.2 mm and a length of 12 mm is inserted 3 mm deep into the outer end of the plug.
- An electrode shaft 12 with a length of 18 mm and a diameter of 0.6 mm is butt-welded to it, which carries a spherical head 20 at its tip.
- a ceramic sleeve 17 surrounds the electrode shaft 12 over its entire length.
- she has an outer diameter of 1.15 mm, an inner diameter of 0.8 mm and a length of 15 mm.
- the niobium stick 9 is melted into the outermost end of the stopper by means of glass solder 14. In this case, the temperature load in the vicinity of the niobium stick is relatively low. It is about 150 to 200 degrees lower than in the first embodiment.
- FIG. 5 A further exemplary embodiment is shown in FIG. 5.
- the stopper 21 (diameter 3.5 mm) made of ceramic or a material that mainly consists of ceramic (eg a cermet)
- a pin 22 made of molybdenum, tungsten or niobium with a diameter of 0.3 mm sintered directly.
- an electrode shaft 25 with a diameter of 0.5 mm is attached to the side of the pin 22 by means of a bevel 26 of the shaft. It has a helix 27 with an outer diameter of 1.6 mm as its head.
- the plug 21 has on its surface facing the discharge a blind hole 28 with a diameter of 1.4 mm and a depth of 1 mm, into which a ceramic sleeve 29 with a total length of 3.5 mm is inserted, which surrounds the electrode shaft 25 and part of the pin 22 loosely (distance approx. 100 ⁇ m).
- the sleeve has an outer diameter of 1.4 mm and an inner diameter of 1 mm. It does not sit directly on the helix, but has a distance of a few tenths of a millimeter; it is held in blind hole 28 by direct sintering. This is possible because of the similarity in the thermal expansion coefficient of the sleeve and plug.
- FIG. 6 which largely corresponds to that shown in FIG. 5 and uses the same reference numbers for the same parts, the concept of the sleeve is further simplified.
- the plug 21 has no blind hole.
- the sleeve 31 is clamped between the flat, discharge-side end surface 30 of the plug and the coil 27. Their length is reduced to 2.5 mm with otherwise unchanged dimensions.
- the sleeve can also consist of quartz glass.
- FIG. 7 Another exemplary embodiment (FIG. 7) is constructed similarly to FIG. 6.
- the spherical electrode 20 is butt welded to the lead-through pin 22 at the shaft end.
- the sleeve 40 is a helix made of tungsten wire, the individual turns of which touch.
- the bushing 22 is sintered directly into the plug 21.

Abstract
Description
- Fig. 1
- eine Metallhalogenidentladungslampe, teilweise geschnitten
- Fig. 2
- Fig. 3
- die Herstellung eines Elektrodensystems gemäß Fig. 2
- Fig. 4 bis 7
Fig. 1).
