Definitions
- the invention relates to a diesel engine according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a diesel engine of the generic type is known from DE-AN S 24 846, 46b1, 23, v. 09.07.1953 known.
- a throttle valve for engine braking operation is provided in the cylinder head of the diesel engine, which is installed at an angle and has a displacement body on the valve plate.
- the displacement body protrudes into an adjacent overflow space, which extends into the plane of the cylinder head base.
- the damaging volume that the overflow space forms due to the inclined installation of the throttle valve and its valve seat residue in the cylinder head can only be partially filled by the displacement body.
- a damage volume of this size leads to considerable deterioration of the motor values, especially at low speeds.
- Another disadvantage is shown in the shape of the displacement body on the valve plate, which has an unfavorable flow guidance from the combustion chamber into the gas outlet channel.
- the cylinder head of a diesel engine in FIG. 3 has a conical extension, adjoining a valve seat, of a recess formed for the arrangement of a throttle valve.
- the expansion serves to enlarge the flow gap when the valve between the valve plate and recess is open and thereby to improve the Flow guidance of the compressed gas from the cylinder into the recess.
- the system of the valve disc on the cylinder head wall when the valve is closed is set back into the cylinder head from the bottom of the cylinder head.
- WO-A-90/03498 shows an internal combustion engine which, due to the trapezoidal, large-volume design of the combustion chamber in the cylinder head, is an Otto engine.
- the valve plates of the gas exchange valves close flush with the combustion chamber contour in the closed position.
- the valve seat of the inlet valves is arranged obliquely due to the large inlet opening with a peripheral area in the plane of the cylinder head base.
- a chamfered valve pocket is incorporated in the piston head.
- the invention is therefore based on the object, with a view to achieving good engine values, on the one hand reducing the damage volume as much as possible and on the other hand improving the flow guidance from the combustion chamber into the gas outlet channel.
- the invention not only minimizes the damage volume, but also shifts it into the piston crown, in which it hardly has any adverse effect on the air swirl.
- the valve seat of the throttle valve is advanced along the throttle valve axis to the level of the cylinder head base, which initially reduces the damage volume in the cylinder head. A further reduction in the volume of damage is then achieved in that the shape of a recess embedded in the piston head for the protrusion of the throttle valve is adapted to the displacement body arranged on the valve plate in such a way that the recess is largely filled in at maximum valve lift of the throttle valve and in the TDC position of the piston . Furthermore, the air flow (swirl movement) of the combustion air sucked into the cylinder is hardly affected thereby, which is particularly advantageous in the case of diesel engines with direct fuel injection into a combustion chamber recess provided in the piston crown.
- the displacement body on the valve plate is designed in such a way that it largely fills the overflow space between the valve seat and the cylinder head base. This is achieved with the hoof-like design of the displacement body.
- the hoof-shaped displacement body has side surfaces that run parallel to the throttle valve channel and a base surface that is flush with the cylinder head base, the damage volume being reduced to a small extent.
- the displacement body is spherical.
- the spherical design of the displacement body leads to a shape of the depression in the piston crown which, as a spherical cap, has the smallest possible damage volume.
- this embodiment leads to a solution with which both a good flow around the throttle valve and thus the best possible engine braking performance and the smallest possible damage volume in the cylinder head and piston crown are achieved. Due to the rounded contour of the displacement body and the trough, the air movement (swirl) in the cylinder is hardly affected.
- a further advantage of the configuration lies in the shape of the displacement body which is rotationally symmetrical with respect to the throttle valve axis, as a result of which the throttle valve can rotate freely during operation, so that a valve guide can be dispensed with.
- the stability of the throttle valve is increased, since the shape of the valve plate reinforces the valve seat, thereby preventing the plate from bending during operational stress.
- valve seat diameter and cross-sectional diameter of the overflow space as well as of the valve seat diameter and diameter of the gas outlet channel are so well matched to one another in terms of flow technology that a particularly good throttling effect of the throttle valve is achieved.
- a spherical or hoof-shaped displacement body would be conceivable on the valve plate, the contours of which lie just above the plane of the cylinder head base. This will damage the throttle valve during assembly when the cylinder head is lowered prevented by hitting a hard surface.
- FIG. 1 shows a part of a cylinder head 1 in the area of the cylinder head base 2 and a part of a piston 3 assigned to it.
- the cylinder head 1 there is an obliquely recessed gas outlet channel 4, which opens in the vicinity of the cylinder head base 2 into an overflow space 5 with an opening to the piston 3.
- its walls 6 form an oblique valve seat 7 at the confluence with the overflow space 5.
- the valve seat 7 closes flush with the cylinder head base 2 in a lower peripheral region.
- valve plate 8 of a throttle valve 9 located in the gas outlet channel 4, the bottom surface of the valve plate 8 having a spherically shaped displacement body 11 arranged rotationally symmetrically with respect to a throttle valve axis 10.
- a lower partial arch 12 delimited by the throttle valve axis 10 of the outer contour of the spherical displacement body 11 closes almost completely with the plane of the cylinder head base 2 flush.
- the piston crown 13 there is a recess 14 which is completely filled to a gap by the part of the valve plate 8 and the displacement body 11 which projects beyond the cylinder head crown 2 in the TDC position of the piston and with the throttle valve 9 open to the maximum.
- the trough 14 has a dome-shaped contour corresponding to the shape of the displacement body 11. The depth of the trough 14 depends on the maximum valve lift of the throttle valve 9.
- FIG. 2 A special embodiment of the displacement body 11 and the trough 14 is shown in FIG. 2.
- the displacement body 11 is of a hoof-shaped design, with its side surfaces 15, 16 running parallel to the throttle valve axis 10 in longitudinal section and its base surface 17 being flush with the cylinder head base 2.
- This design of the displacement body 11 largely fills the overflow space 5.
- the shape of the trough 14 in the piston crown 13 which is required by the valve lift and corresponds to the hoof-shaped displacement body 11 is that of an oblique cylinder.
- a particularly good throttling effect of the throttle valve 9 is achieved when, with a cylinder diameter of the internal combustion engine from 125 to 128 mm, the mean valve seat diameter d 1 of the throttle valve 9 is about 16 mm, the gas outlet channel 4 has a diameter d 2 of about 14 mm, the valve stroke of the throttle valve 9 is about 4 mm and the diameter d4 of the connecting channel 18 between the gas outlet channel 4 and an exhaust pipe not shown here is approximately 9.5 mm.
- the throttle valve 9 is arranged obliquely relative to the cylinder head base 2 at an angle ⁇ of approximately 65 °.
