Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft Hexafluorpropylen und Tetrafluorethylen enthaltende Copolymere, die amorph sind. Sie können nach einem neuartigen kontinuierlichen Hochdruckprozess erzeugt werden.
- Amorphe, fluorierte Polymere und spezielle perfluorierte Polymere sind wegen ihrer ungewöhnlichen Oberflächeneigenschaften, wegen ihres geringen Brechungsindexes, ihrer geringen Dielektrizitätskonstante und der relativen Einfachheit des Beschichtens oder Verkapselns von Artikeln mit derartigen Polymeren besonders nützlich. Allerdings war die Verwendung derartiger Polymere wegen ihrer hohen Kosten beschränkt, die im allgemeinen von den hohen Kosten der Monomere und/oder der hohen Kosten des Polymerisationsprozesses zur Erzeugung der Polymere kommen. Daher besteht eine ständige Suche nach solchen Polymeren und Verfahren zu ihrer Herstellung, die kostengünstiger sind.
- Die US-P-3062793 beschreibt amorphe Copolymere von Tetrafluorethylen (TFE) und Hexafluorpropylen (HFP), die mit Hilfe einer radikalischen Hochdruckpolymerisation hergestellt werden. Der einzige darin beschriebene Prozess ist ein Chargenprozess, der eine relativ niedrige Produktivität hat. Die EP-A-072659 offenbart die Copolymerisation von TFE und HFP unter Verwendung von Ammoniumpersulfat als Initiator.
- Die Hauptanmeldung EP-A-0808335 beschreibt einen kontinuierlichen Polymerisationsprozess, umfassend: Kontaktieren von Tetrafluorethylen, Hexafluorpropylen und eines radikalischen Initiators bei einem Druck von etwa 41 MPa bis etwa 690 MPa und einer Temperatur oberhalb von etwa 200ºC bis etwa 400ºC, um ein amorphes Polymer zu erzeugen, das mindestens 30 Molprozent repetierende Einheiten enthält, die von diesem Hexafluorpropylen deriviert sind; mindestens 1 Molprozent repetierenden Einheiten enthält, die von dem Tetrafluorethylen deriviert sind; und zwar unter der Voraussetzung, dass die kontinuierliche Polymerisation eine mittlere Verweilzeit von etwa 5 Sekunden bis etwa 30 Minuten hat.
- Diese Patentanmeldung beschreibt ebenfalls ein amorphes Polymer, im wesentlichen bestehend aus repetierenden Einheiten der Formel:
- (a) mindestens etwa 30 Molprozent von
- -CF2-CF(CF3)- (I)
- (b) mindestens etwa 1 Molprozent
- -CF2-CF2- (II)
- und
- (c) Null bis etwa 10 Molprozent
- worin X-CnF2n+1 oder -OCnF2n+1 ist, m ist 2, 3 oder 4 und n ist entweder eine ganze Zahl von 2 bis 20 mit Alkyl-Gruppen -CnF2n+1 oder eine ganzen Zahl 1 bis 20 mit Alkoxy-Gruppen -OCnF2n+1;
- und zwar unter der Voraussetzung, dass in dem Polymer weniger als 20 Molprozent von (I) in Form von Triaden vorliegen.
- Die Hauptanmeldung beschreibt ferner einen kontinuierlichen Polymerisationsprozess, umfassend: Kontaktieren von Tetrafluorethylen, Hexafluorpropylen und einem dritten Monomer sowie einem radikalischen Initiator bei einem Druck von etwa 41 MPa bis etwa 690 MPa und einer Temperatur von etwa 200ºC bis etwa 400ºC, um ein amorphes Polymer zu erzeugen, das mindestens 15 Molprozent und vorzugsweise 30 Molprozent repetierende Einheiten enthält, die von diesem Hexafluorpropylen deriviert sind; mindestens Null bis 70 Molprozent repetierende Einheiten enthält, die von diesem Tetrafluorethylen deriviert sind, und Null bis 70 Molprozent repetierende Einheiten enthält, die von diesem dritten Monomer deriviert sind; und zwar unter der Voraussetzung, dass diese kontinuierliche Polymerisation eine mittlere Verweilzeit von etwa 5 Sekunden bis etwa 30 Minuten hat.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine Verbindung der Formel R&sup6;R&sup7;CFSO&sub2;R&sup8;, worin sind: R&sup6; Perfluoralkyl; Perfluoralkyl, das ein oder mehrere Ether-Sauerstoffatome enthält; Perfluoralkoxy oder Perfluoralkoxy, das ein oder mehrere Ether-Sauerstoffatome enthält; R&sup7; ist Perfluoralkyl oder Perfluoralkyl, das ein oder mehrere Ether-Sauerstoffatome enthält, und R&sup8; ist Perfluoralkyl. Vorzugsweise enthält jedes R&sup6;, R&sup7; und R&sup8; unabhängig 1 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatome. Außerdem ist R&sup8; vorzugsweise Perfluor-n-alkyl, das 1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatome enthält. Mehr bevorzugt ist R&sup6; Perfluor-n-propoxy, R&sup7; ist Trifluormethyl und R&sup8; ist Perfluor-n-octyl. Diese Verbindung ist als ein Initiator für die in der Hauptanmeldung beschriebenen Polymerisationen verwendbar.
- In den Beispielen wurde die ¹&sup9;F NMR, die zur Bestimmung der HFP-Verteilung in dem Polymer angewendet wurde, an einem bei 235 MHz betriebenen "Bruker AC 250 NMR" gemessen. Die Polymerproben wurden in Smm-NMR-Röhrchen gegeben und bis 250º bis 360ºC in einer schmalen Bohrungssonde erhitzt. Sofern vorhanden, erschienen die Methin-CF der HFP-Einheiten bei -183,5 ppm als isolierte Einheiten; bei -179,5, sofern vorhanden, in Form von Kopf-Schwanz-Triaden; und bei -177 ppm, sofern vorhanden, in Form von Kopf-Schwanz-Triaden. Es ist ungewiss, ob die Integration für die HFP-Triaden bei -177 ppm auch höhere (als Triaden) Oligomerblöcke einschließt oder nicht. Die Menge von HFP- Triaden wurde aus dem Verhältnis der Flächen des ¹&sup9;F NMR-Signals bei -177 ppm zu den Gesamtflächen der Signale bei -177, -179,5 und -183,5 ppm bestimmt.
- In den Beispielen wurde die Druckänderung benutzt, um das Gewicht des zu dem Mischbehälter (2) zugesetzten Tetrafluorethylens (TFE) zu bestimmen. Bei den Berechnungen von Tetrafluorethylen im Beispiel 1 wurde der Überdruck von TFE unkorrekt als absoluter Druck angesetzt. Auf der Grundlage dieser unkorrekten Annahme wurde die Menge von 160 g TFE in Beispiel 1 angegeben.
- Die tatsächliche Menge von TFE, die zugesetzt worden ist, ist als solche in Beispiel 1 dargestellt und als Wert in Klammern gekennzeichnet.

- In den Beispielen wurden die folgende Materialien verwendet:
- "Dimer" ein perfluoriertes Lösemittel, dass in der US-P-5237049 definiert wurde,
- FC®-75-Fluorinert® Electronic Liquid, vertrieben von der 3M Chemicals Products Division, vermutlich im wesentlichen Perfluor(2-butyltetrahydrofuran),
- Kapton® Polyimidfolie - eine Polyimidfolie die bei der E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company, Inc. Wimington, De, USA, verfügbar ist.
- Fig. 1 ist eine schematische Darstellung einer kontinuierlichen Hochdruckeinheit, die für die kontinuierliche Polymerisation verwendet werden kann. In Fig. 1 wird innerhalb der Barrikade NF&sub3;-Initiator in den Kreis (1) geladen und sodann in den Behälter (2) unter Verwendung von Hexafluorpropylen (HFP) geblasen. In (2) wird Tetrafluorethylen dem HFP/NF&sub3;-Gemisch zugesetzt und die Gesamtmischung in (2) sodann aus dem Boden von (2) entfernt, auf einen höheren Druck verstärkt und durch den "Rückführkreis für Monomer" zurückgeführt und danach ein Teil davon in den beheizten (Polymerisations)Reaktor (5) geschickt und ein Teil durch Ventil (4) zurück nach (2) geführt, nachdem der Druck am Druckregler (3) auf den Druck der Inhaltsstoffe von (2) gesenkt worden war. Nach dem Austritt aus dem Reaktor (5) wird der Druck der Mischung am Rückdruckregler (6) herabgesetzt (oftmals auf Atmosphärendruck) und das Copolymer-Produkt in der Glasauffangflasche (7) abgetrennt. Gasförmige Substanz, die die Auffangflasche verläßt, wird durch Messgerät (8) geführt, das zur Messung der Menge von nicht umgesetzten gasförmigen Monomeren verwendet wird. Eine detailliertere Beschreibung der Anwendung des Apparates in Fig. 1 erfolgt nachfolgend.
- Es wurden alle für einen einzigen Durchlauf benötigten Reaktanten in einem Vorratsgefäß vorgemischt, auf einen Druck von 103 MPa gebracht, bei etwas geringerem Druck durch einen erhitzten Druckbehälter abgelassen und schließlich auf Atmosphärendruck in Form eines mit nicht umgesetztem Monomer verschäumten festen Polymers entspannt. Die nachfolgend für Beispiel 1 gegebene detaillierte Prozedur bezieht sich auf die schematische Reaktor-Darstellung von Fig. 1.
- Es wurde ein 25 ml-Nebenkreis (1) der Beschickungsleitung zu einem 3,8-Liter-Behälter (2) mit Stickstofftrifluorid (etwa 0,6 g NF&sub3;) bei Außentemperatur auf 710 kPa unter Druck gesetzt Sodann wurde der 3,8-Liter-Behälter mit 16 g TFE (tatsächlich beschicktes TFE betrug 222 g) und 4.000g HFP beschickt, wovon ein Teil des HFP verwendet wurde, um das NF&sub3; in den Behälter (2) zu blasen. Die flüssige Monomerphase wurde von dem Boden des Behälters abgezogen, auf 103 MPa unter Druck gesetzt und sodann über Rückdruckregler (3) zum Behälter zurückgeführt. Der Durchlauf wurde solange nicht gestartet, bis die Inhaltsstoffe des Autoklaven für 10 Minuten eines solchen Rücklaufs gemischt worden waren. Der Rücklauf durch den Behälter wurde für die Dauer des Durchlaufs aufrechterhalten. Es wurden kein Versuche unternommen, die Behältertemperatur zu regeln, die im Falle dieses Durchlaufs von 23ºC zu Beginn bis 33ºC bis am Ende schwankte.
- Der Fluss durch das System wurde aufrechterhalten, indem der Monomerdruck stufenweise von 103 MPa in dem Rückführkreis auf 96,5 MPa in dem Reaktor und schließlich auf Atmosphärendruck in dem Produktsammler abgelassen wurde. Die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit wurde mit Hilfe eines Mikrodosierventils (4) in einer Leitung aus rostfreiem Stahl geregelt, die den Behälterrückführkreis bei 103 MPa mit dem Reaktor bei 96,5 MPa verbindet. Der Reaktordruck wurde mit Hilfe des Rückdruckreglers (6), der hinter dem Reaktor (5) angeordnet war, auf 96,5 MPa gehalten. Das Mikrodosierventil (4) wurde solange geöffnet, bis Monomer durch den Reaktor mit 10 bis 12 g pro Minute Durchflussgeschwindigkeit strömte; die Messung der Durchflussgeschwindigkeiten wird nachfolgend diskutiert. Um während des gesamten Durchlaufs eine stationäre Strömung aufrechtzuerhalten, wurden an dem Mikrodosierventil (4) regelmäßige Justierungen vorgenommen.
- Wie bereits erwähnt, verlief ein flexibles Rohr aus rostfreiem Stahl mit einem Außendurchmesser von 0,40 cm und einem Innendurchmesser von 0,16 cm vom Mikrodosierventil (4) zur Vorderseite des Reaktors (5). In dem Versuch, die Monomere rasch auf Reaktortemperatur zu bringen, wurden ungefähr die letzten 61 cm der Rohrleitung vor dem Reaktor mit Elektro-Isolierband umwickelt und auf etwa 200ºC vorgewärmt Unter Berücksichtigung, dass das Innenvolumen dieses vorgewärmten Segments relativ zum Reaktor gering war (etwa 1 ml in der vorgewärmten Leitung gegenüber 10 ml im Reaktor) und dass die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten bei 200ºC langsamer sind als bei 275ºC, wurde die Polymerbildung in der vorgewärmten Leitung zum Zwecke der Produktivitätsberechnungen ignoriert. Reaktor (5), in diesem Beispiel ein 10 ml-Autoklav aus rostfreiem Stahl (10,2 cm lang und 1,1 cm Innendurchmesser, der 2 lose 0,63 cm-Kugeln aus rostfreiem Stahl enthielt), wurde mit einer Farben-Schüttelmaschine unter Erhitzen bis 275ºC heftig geschüttelt.
- Es wurde ein Stück einer flexiblen Rohrleitung aus rostfreiem Stahl vom Reaktor (5) zurück zum Druckregler (6) geführt, wo der Druck von 96,5 MPa auf Atmosphärendruck abfiel. Trotz der Tatsache, dass nichts unternommen wurde, entweder die Leitung oder das Ventil anzuwärmen, wurde in diesem sowie der Mehrzahl der Durchläufe kein Verstopfen festgestellt. Wenn ein Verstopfen auftrat, so geschah dieses meistens an der Niederdruckseite des Reglers (6), wo geschäumtes Polymer zurückblieb, wenn das Monomer entspannt wurde. Um ein Verstopfen auf ein Minimum herabzusetzen, wurde die Niederdruckseite des Ablassventils aufgebohrt, um eine möglichst große Düse zu schaffen, und wurde sodann direkt mit einer Glasauffangflasche (7) verbunden. Das aus der Glasauffangflasche austretende gasförmige Monomer wurde durch das Feuchtemessgerät (8) geleitet und die Literzahl von Monomer pro Minute umgewandelt zu Monomerfluss in Gramm pro Minute. Über die Dauer dieses Durchlaufs von 247 Minuten wurde auf diese Weise eine mittlere Durchlaufgeschwindigkeit von 10,9 g/min festgestellt. Nimmt man eine Dichte des HFP bei 275ºC/96,5 MPa von etwa 1,29 g/ml an, so betrug die mittlere Verweilzeit für die Monomere im Reaktor (5) etwa 1,2 Minuten. Das Monomer wurde aus der Glasauffangflasche (7) in Form von großen, mit weißem Feststoff geschäumten Brocken mit einem Gewicht von 170,2 g gewonnen. Das Abziehen von restlichem Monomer mit einer Vakuumpumpe verringerte das Polymergewicht auf 159 g bei einer Mengenleistung von 3,8kg/1/h. Die Fluor-NMR der Polymerschmelze bei 330ºC ermittelte 43 Mol-% (53 Gew.-%) HFP copolymerisiert mit 57 Mol-% (47 Gew.-%) TFE, was die Berechnung von 54% TFE Umsatz pro Durchlauf und 3,2% HFP Umsatz pro Durchlauf erlaubt. Das Mahlen von 1,5 g dieses Polymers in der Walzenmühle mit Sml FC-75 bei Raumtemperatur ergab eine viskose Lösung. Es wurden transparente Folien bei 160ºC unter Aufbringung von 3600 kgf Druck für 1g-Proben gepresst, die zwischen Decklagen aus Polyimid-Folie Kapton® gehalten wurden. Unter einem aufgebrachten Gewicht von 15 kg wurde eine 2 g-Probe durch einen Schmelzindex-Prüfer bei 0,63 g/min bei 200ºC extrudiert. Die GPC in FC- 75-Lösemittel zeigte Mw = 235.000 und Mn = 94.700 für ein Mw/Mn = 2,87.
- A. 65,5 MPa: Es wurde der gleiche Aufbau wie bei Beispiel 1 verwendet. Es wurde ein Mischung von 2000 g HFP, 110 g TFE und 2,5 g CF&sub3;CF&sub2;CF&sub2;OCF(CF&sub3;)SO&sub2;(CF&sub4;)&sub7;CF&sub3; aufgelöst in 2 ml HFP als zyklisches Dimeres (Perfluordimethylcyclobutan) im 96,5 MPa-Behälter (2) angesetzt. Etwa 1674 g dieser Mischung wurden durch den geschüttelten 10ml-Autoklaven bei 350ºC und 62,3 bis 70,5 MPa (im Mittel etwa 65,5 MPa) über eine Dauer von 110 Minuten geschickt. Das Trocknen zunächst unter Vakuum und sodann für 4 Stunden bei 150ºC lieferte 120 g weißes Polymer. Die Analysenergebnisse sind nachfolgend angegeben.

- ~56 Mol-% TFE anhand ¹&sup9;F NMR in der Schmelze bei 320ºC
- Mengenleistung 6,5kg/1/h (541bs/gal/br)
- B. 96,5 MPa: Es wurde der gleiche Aufbau wie bei Beispiel 1 verwendet. Es wurde eine Mischung von 2000 g HFP, 110 g TFE und 2,5 g CF&sub3;CF&sub2;CF&sub2;OCF(CF&sub3;)SO&sub2;(CF&sub4;)&sub7;CF&sub3; aufgelöst in 2 ml HFP als zyklisches Dimeres (Perfluordimethylcyclobutan) im 3,8-Liter-Behälter (2) angesetzt. Es wurden etwa 1552 g dieser Mischung durch den geschüttelten 10 ml-Autoklaven bei 350ºC und 96,5 MPa über eine Dauer von 140 Minuten geschickt. Das Trocknen des Produktes zunächst unter Vakuum und danach für 4 Std. bei 150ºC lieferte 148 g weißes Polymer. Die Analysenergebnisse sind nachfolgend gegeben.

- Es wurde ein Lösung von Perfluor-1-propoxyethansulfonylfluorid (18,6 g, 50,4 mMol, Perfluor-1- propoxyethansulfonylfluorid wurde nach der Methode von S. Temple, J. Org. Chem. 1968, 33, 344 hergestellt) und Perfluoroctyltrimethylsilan (11,8 g, 24 mMol, Perfluoroctyltrimethylsilan wurde entsprechend der Beschreibung der US-P-5171893 hergestellt) in Trifluortoluol (24 ml) auf etwa -11ºC gekühlt und mit Tris(piperidino)sulfoniumbenzoat (144 mg 0,35 mMol) behandelt. Das Reaktionsgemisch ließ man langsam bis 25ºC erwämen. Nach 0,5 Stunden wurden weitere 144 Tris(piperidino)sulfoniumbenzoat zugesetzt, was zu einer zusätzlichen Färbung und einem schwach exothermen Ablauf führte. Nach Rühren für 18 Stunden wurden flüchtige Bestandteile aus dem Behälter unter Vakuum abgetrieben, zuerst Lösemittel aufgenommen, danach höhersiedendes Material, das erneut destilliert wurde, um 6,8 g (37%) Produkt mit einem Sp. von 45º bis 47ºC/0,05 mmHg zu ergeben, das anhand der gaschromatographischen Analyse homogen war. ¹&sup9;F NMR (THF-d&sub8;): -77,2(m), -80,7 (t. J = 10 Hz), -81,67 (t. J = 7,3 Hz), -104,4 und -105,4 (AB-Muster J = 246 Hz) Singuletts bei -119,5; -121,4; -121,7; -121.95; -122,8; -123,8; -126,3 und -129,4, entsprechend der gewünschten Struktur:

- Es wurde der gleiche Aufbau wie in Beispiel 1 verwendet. Es wurde eine Mischung von 2000 g HFP, 110 g TFE und 1,2 g von CF&sub3;CF&sub2;CG&sub2;OCF(CF&sub3;)SO&sub2;F aufgelöst in 2 ml HFP als zyklisches Dimeres (Perfluordimethylcyclobutan) im 3,8-Liter-Behälter (2) angesetzt. Es wurden etwa 1604 g dieser Mischung durch den geschüttelten 10ml-Autoklaven bei 350ºC und 96,5 MPa über eine Dauer von 135 Minuten geschickt: Das Trocknen des Produkts zunächst unter Vakuum und danach für 4 Std. bei 150ºC lieferte 80 g weißes Polymer. Die Analysenergebnisse sind nachfolgend gezeigt.
