Description
Das Patent 1 494 491 betrifft die Verwendung von Kondensationsprodukten, die durch Umsetzen von
Mischpolymerisaten, die 5. bis 25°/o Acrylamid einpolymerisiert enthalten, mit 0,2 bis 3 Äquivalenten,
bezogen auf eine Amidgruppe im Mischpolymerisat, von in Butanol gelöstem Formaldehyd unter 3- bis
5stündigem Erhitzen am Rückfluß und in Gegenwart eines milden sauren Katalysators hergestellt worden
sind, als Filmbildner im Gemisch mit anderen harzartigen Bindemitteln, insbesondere Epoxyharz, Alkydharz,
Nitrocellulose, Harnstoffharz, Melaminharz oder epoxydiertes öl zur Herstellung von wärmegehärteten
Überzügen.
Die gemäß dem Hauptpatent verwendeten Überzugsmassen bilden Filme mit ausgezeichneter Biegsamkeit
und sehr guter Haftung bei erneutem Aufbringen und weisen keine unerwünschte Verfärbung
insbesondere beim Erwärmen der Filme auf. Dabei erhält man diese verbesserten Eigenschaften, ohne daß
irgendeine der erwünschten Eigenschaften der aldehydmodifizierten Acrylamid-Interpolymeren verlorengeht.
Beispielsweise ergeben diese Überzugsmassen Filme, die nach Aussehen, Glanz, Kratzfestigkeit, Farbbeständigkeit
sowie ihrer Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Feuchtigkeit, Verfleckung, Schmiermittel, Wärme,
Reinigungsmittel und Korrosion und ihrer Haftfestigkeit und Biegsamkeit hervorragend gut sind und auch
keinerlei, unerwünschten Geruch besitzen. Infolge dieser Eigenschaften sind diese Massen zur Erzeugung
von Lacken für die verschiedensten Geräte gut geeignet, für Herde, Kühlschränke, Klimaanlagen, Waschmaschinen,
Wassererhitzer und allgemein als technisch verwendbare Lacke für feste Oberflächen', z. B. auf
Metallen, Kunststoffen, Holz u. dgl.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß bei Verwendung von Polyvinylharzen an Stelle der in der Hauptanmeldung
beschriebenen anderen harzartigen Bindemittel zusammen mit den Kondensationsprodukten, die durch
Umsetzen von Mischpolymerisaten, die 5 bis 25% Acrylamid einpolymerisiert enthalten, mit 0,2 bis
. 3 Äquivalenten, bezogen auf eine Amidgruppe im Mischpolymerisat, von in Butanol gelöstem Formaldehyd
unter 3- bis 5stündigem Erhitzen am Rückfluß und in Gegenwart eines milden sauren Katalysators
hergestellt worden sind, als Filmbildner Überzugsmassen
erhalten werden, die Filme mit ausgezeichneter Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Chemikalien und Lösungsmittel
und sehr hoher Biegsamkeit, Zähigkeit und Haftfestigkeit bilden. Die Filme lassen sich leicht
zu einem harten, warmgehärteten Zustand einbrennen und sind besonders nützlich für Schutzüberzüge auf
Aluminiumfolien, wie man sie z. B. für Wärmeisolierurigszwecke benötigt, ferner für das Überziehen von
ίο zusammenlegbaren Rohren, Schläuchen und Tuben
und für viele andere Zwecke.
Bei .den Vinylharzen, die man den formaldehydmodifizierten
Acrylamidharzen zur Erzeugung der erfindungsgemäßen Massen zufügt, handelt es sich
vorzugsweise um Mischpolymere aus einem Vinylhalogenid, wie Vinylchlorid oder Vinylbromid, mit
einem Vinylester einer aliphatischen Monocarbonsäure, wie Vinylacetat, -propionat, -butyrat od. dgl.
Der aliphatische Monocarbonsäurebestandteil dieser Vinylester sollte nicht mehr als 6 Kohlenstoffatome
enthalten, wie etwa die Capronsäure, jedoch ist Vinylacetat der am meisten gebrauchte Ester dieser Klasse. ,,
Die mit den formaldehydmodifizierten Acrylamid- ( harzen am besten verträglichen Vinylharze sind diejenigen,
bei denen das Copolymere aus dem Vinylhalogenid und dem Vinylester einer aliphatischen
Monocarbonsäure noch mit einer kleineren Menge eines dritten Zusatzstoffes modifiziert ist, vorzugsweise
mit einem solchen Stoff, durch den entweder Carboxyl-(— COOH)- oder Hydroxyl-(— OH)-Gruppen in den
Polymeraufbau eingeführt werden. Carboxylgruppen kann man in die Copolymeren leicht dadurch einführen,
daß man bei der Polymerisation eine ungesättigte Säure öder deren Anhydrid, z. B. Maleinsäure
oder ihr Anhydrid oder auch Fumarsäure zugibt; Hydroxylgruppen lassen sich durch alkalische Hydrolyse
mindestens eines Teils der Esterbindungen in dem Copolymeren-Aufbau einführen. In den modifizierten
Mischpolymeren oder Interpolymeren ist das Vinylhalogenid der Hauptbestandteil; es ist gewöhnlich in
einer Menge, von 50 bis 95 Gewichtsprozent zugegen, während die Ester aliphatischer Monocarbonsäuren
etwa 2 bis 45 Gewichtsprozent ausmachen. Wie oben angegeben, sind die Carboxyl- oder Hydroxylbestand- /
teile nur in kleineren Mengen vorhanden, gewöhnlich von nur 1 bis 3 Gewichtsprozent Hydroxyl oder Carboxyl.
Ein für die Zwecke der Erfindung besonders geeignetes Vinylharz enthält etwa 86% Vinylchlorid;
etwa 12% Vinylacetat und etwa 1% eines Carboxylbestandteils (gewöhnlich Maleinsäure). Ein bevorzugtes
hydroxylmodifiziertes Vinylharz enthält etwa 91% Vinylchlorid, etwa 3% Vinylacetat und etwa
2,3% eines Hydroxylbestandteils (etwa 6%, wenn er als Vinylalkohol berechnet wird). Diese Vinylharze
sind leicht im Handel erhältlich und ebenso auch andere Vinylhalogenid-Vinylester-Mischpolymere, die
entweder mit Carboxyl- oder Hydroxylgruppen modi- , fiziert sind.
. Außer Copolymeren kann man nach der Erfindung auch Homopolymere aus Vinylhalogeniden, wie Polyvinylchlorid oder Polyvinylbromid, zusammen mit den formaldehydmodifizierten Acrylamidharzen verarbeiten ; auch diese Zusätze fallen unter den Begriff »Vinylharz« in dem hier gebrauchten Sinne.
. Außer Copolymeren kann man nach der Erfindung auch Homopolymere aus Vinylhalogeniden, wie Polyvinylchlorid oder Polyvinylbromid, zusammen mit den formaldehydmodifizierten Acrylamidharzen verarbeiten ; auch diese Zusätze fallen unter den Begriff »Vinylharz« in dem hier gebrauchten Sinne.
Das folgende Beispiel erläutert die Herstellung eines Polymers aus einem Harz, das Acrylamid als Bestand-,
teil enthält und anschließend mit Formaldehyd behandelt wird.
In diesem Beispiel wurde ein acrylamidhaltiges interpolymerisierbares
Gemisch aus folgenden Bestandteilen hergestellt:

Diese Mischung ließ man 6 Stunden lang am Rückflußkühler
kochen, vermischte dann die erhaltene Lösung, die einen Feststoffgehalt von 46,8 hatte, mit
264 Gewichtsteilen Formaldehyd und 3,6 Gewichtsteilen Maleinsäureanhydrid und kochte 2 Stunden
lang weiter, wodurch ein Produkt mit einem Feststoffgehalt von 39,6% und einer Viskosität von Z1 entstand.
Dieser Harzlösung ließen sich Vinylharze, z. B. Copolymere aus Vinylchlorid und Vinylacetat, gut
einverleiben, wobei man gute Überzugsmassen erhielt.
Pigmente, wie Titandioxid, Ruß od. dgl., kann man den Überzugsmassen zur Erzeugung jeder gewünschten
Farbe zufügen. Auch andere Bestandteile, die man normalerweise solchen Überzugsmassen zusetzt, z. B.
keimtötende Mittel, Füllstoffe, Trockenstoffe, Silikone u. dgl., können zugefügt werden.
Wenn ein innerer Katalysator, wie Acrylsäure, Methacrylsäure od. dgl., in dem Mischpolymeren zugegen
ist, dann benötigt man keinen zusätzlichen Katalysator zum schnelleren Härten der Filme, die aus
den hier beschriebenen Überzugsmassen hergestellt werden. Enthält jedoch das Interpolymere keinen
Katalysator, dann empfiehlt es sich, der Masse ein saures Zusatzmittel kurz vor der Verarbeitung zuzugeben.
Geeignete Katalysatoren für diesen Zweck sind z. B. Zitronensäure, Weinsteinsäure und Phosphorsäure
wie auch »latente« Katalysatoren, d. h. solche Stoffe, die beim Erwärmen saure Verbindungen ergeben.
Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern die Herstellung von brauchbaren Mischungen formaldehydmodifizierter
Acrylamidpolymeren zusammen mit Vinylharzen.

A. Ein interpolymerisierbares Gemisch wurde aus den folgenden Bestandteilen hergestellt:

"'Auch andere nicht reaktionsfähige Lösungsmittel können darin enthalten sein.
Die Mischung der beiden Harzgemenge ist eine wertvolle Überzugsmasse, die sich gut auf Metallbleche,
Folien oder anderen Unterlagen aufbringen läßt. Man kann sie durch etwa 30 Minuten langes Einbrennen
auf 150 bis 175 0C härten.
Die Filme werden in der Wärme hart, haften fest auf der Unterlage und bleiben hart, zäh, biegsam und
beständig gegen Chemikalien, z. B. Alkalien, Säuren, Salze, Mörtel usw. Sie sind auch widerstandsfähig
gegen Lösungsmittel, wie Alkohol, Toluol, Methylisobutylketon u. dgl. Wenn man sie mit einem Wattebausch
betupft, der mit einem solchen Lösungsmittel getränkt ist, entstehen keine Flecken auf den Überzügen.

Für dieses Beispiel nahm man eine Paste aus einem Pigment und dem nach Beispiel 2 A hergestellten Harz,
die die in Beispiel 2 B angegebene Zusammensetzung hatte. ■ -';■; "\■■-■;"■<■.-
Die Vinylharzlösung wurde auf dieselbe Weise wie im Beispiel 2B angegeben hergestellt; sie enthielt
Dieses Gemisch kochte man 2 Stunden lang am Rückflußkühler, gab 1Z2TeU weiteres Cumolhydroperoxid
zu und kochte nochmals 2 Stunden lang am Rückflußkühler, wobei ein harzartiges Interpolymers
entstand. Hierzu gab man eine Lösung, die 2,0 Mol Formaldehyd in Butanol je Mol Amid enthielt und
eine Konzentration von 40 % hatte, sowie etwa 1J3 Teil
Maleinsäureanhydrid als Katalysator, um die Azidität einzustellen. Das Ganze kochte man 3 Stunden lang
am Rückflußkühler und destillierte dann den Butylalkohol ab. Das erhaltene Produkt hatte einen Feststoffgehalt
von 66%; es wurde nun mit Toluol auf einen Feststoffgehalt von 50% verdünnt und konnte
dann mit einer Lösung eines Vinylharzes vermengt werden. Man kann dafür auch an Stelle des Toluols

Überzüge aus dieser Mischung brachte man auf Stahlbleche auf und brannte diese bei etwa 1500C.

Das im Beispiel 2 B beschriebene Polyvinylharz enthält
reaktionsfähige Carboxyle, die sich mit N-Methylolgruppen in den Reaktionsprodukten der Amidharze
umsetzen, wobei während der Veresterung zwischen den Molekülen der beiden Harzarten wahrscheinlich
in den Mischungen Bindungen entstehen.
Andere Vinylharze, z. B. die bekannten Homopolymeren von Vinylhalogeniden und Copolymere aus
Vinylchlorid und Vinylacetat lassen sich oft mit formaldehydmodifizierten
Acrylamiden zu brauchbaren Überzugsmassen vermischen, obwohl sie keine Carboxylgruppen
enthalten. Diese beiden Harzarten in der Mischung können eine monomere Beziehung zueinander
einnehmen und unter Anlagerung von weiteren endständigen Äthylengruppen unter Mischpolymerisation
der beiden Harze reagieren.
Es ist ferner möglich und in der Praxis oft erwünscht,
den Überzugsmassen nach vorliegender Erfindung noch andere harzartige Zusätze einzuverleiben, z. B. Alkydharze,
Aminharze od. dgl. Man nimmt derartige Harze aber vorzugsweise nur in kleineren Mengen, obwohl
gelegentlich auch größere Mengen zugefügt werden
können. ___
Das Kondensationsprodukt und das Polyvinylharz sind gut miteinander verträglich. Man kann sogar
jedes der beiden Harze in kleinen Mengen zusammen
ίο mit dem Hauptbestandteil (dem jeweils anderen Harz)
zusammengeben. Jedes der Harze kann in einer Menge von 5 bis 95%, bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge der
Harzbestandteile, vorhanden sein. Die Mischungen bei oder nahe den Grenzwerten dieses Bereiches ähneln
stark dem Hauptbestandteil. Man bevorzugt Mischungen, die etwa 5 bis 75 Gewichtsprozent der Vinylharzbestandteile
enthalten.
Claims (2)
1. Verwendung von Kondensationsprodukten, die durch Umsetzen von Mischpolymerisaten, die
5 bis 25% Acrylamid einpolymerisiert enthalten, mit 0,2 bis 3 Äquivalenten, bezogen auf eine Amidgruppe
im Mischpolymerisat, von in Butanol gelöstem Formaldehyd unter 3- bis 5stündigem Erhitzen
am Rückfluß und in Gegenwart eines milden sauren Katalysators hergestellt worden sind, als
Filmbildner im Gemisch mit anderen harzartigen
. Bindemitteln, zur Herstellung von wärmegehärteten Überzügen, nach Patent 1494 491, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß das andere harzartige Bindemittel ein Polyvinylharz ist.
2. Verwendung eines Gemischs nach Anspruch 1, dessen Polyvinylharz ein Polymeres von Vinylacetat
und/oder Vinylchlorid ist.
