Description
The invention relates to a method for producing nanoparticles from a noble metal and to the use of the nanoparticles produced by the method for the production of printable suspensions, inks or pastes for printing or for forming functional layers (eg electrically conductive layers) or decorative ( eg, optically reflective layers) surfaces. The process is intended to produce nanoparticles of silver, gold or platinum. It can also be exploited the catalytic effect of these precious metals.
Noble metal nanoparticles, in particular silver, are used for the production of inks which can be applied to substrates by a wide variety of application methods. Since the sintering behavior of such inks, and in particular the temperature required for adequate sintering, is influenced by the particle size and also the particle size distribution, it is of high interest to be able to produce such nanoparticles from noble metal with a predefinable particle size and optionally also particle size distribution.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide possibilities for a simple and cost-effective production of nanoparticles from a noble metal, in which a specific influence on the particle size of the nanoparticles produced in this way can be taken.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by a method which makes use of the features of
In the method according to the invention, a chemical compound of the respective noble metal in an aqueous solution or the coarse-grained noble metal should be dissolved in an acid mixture. In the respective solution, at least one surfactant or an aqueous or alcoholic solution containing at least one surfactant and, in the case of silver and platinum, a reducing agent should additionally be added.
The influencing of the particle size of the nanoparticles produced by the process takes place with the parameters: concentration of the chemical compound or of the noble metal, temperature and the proportion of surfactant. An influence can also be the pH or the adjustment of certain pH values in individual process steps in the synthesis.
After the actual synthesis, the noble metal particles precipitating out of the respective solution are centrifuged out.
The particle size can be reduced with a smaller concentration of the chemical compound used or of the noble metal in the respective solution and / or elevated temperature and / or an increased proportion of surfactant.
In particular, in the production of nanoparticles of silver or platinum, an increased pH can lead to smaller particle sizes.
For the production of nanoparticles from gold or platinum, these precious metals can be dissolved in a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. The mixing ratio should be 75 mass% hydrochloric acid 25 mass% nitric acid. This acid mixture is also known as aqua regia. Upon dissolution, tetrachloride-gulic acid or hexachloride-platinic acid forms.
Addition of hydrazine hydrate can precipitate pure platinum in the form of nanoparticles by reduction.
In the case of gold, this can be achieved by targeted influencing of the pH even without reducing agent.
In all three of the precious metals considered here, the use of the surfactant (s) leads to an agglomeration of the individual nanoparticles can be avoided.

Beispiel 1example 1
There were dissolved 32 g of AgNO 3 (type AppliChem, reinst) in 1600 ml of water and 22.1 g
In
This ink was deposited on silicon using a Dimatix SQ128 printhead. The single-pressure layer thickness was 2.5 μm, with a line width of 37 μm-40 μm. In multiple printing with 10 repetitions, layer thicknesses between 18 μm and 20 μm are achieved, with line widths of 60 μm-65 μm. The printed structures were baked in a tube furnace at a heating rate of 10 K / min up to a temperature of 380 ° C. Simultaneously, the electrical resistance of the printed structure is determined by 4-point measurement. The printed layer was previously dried at 180 ° C for 0.5 hours. This makes them already electrically conductive.
Beispiel 2:Example 2:
In a first step, 10 g of a commercial gold powder (Heraeus 200-03) was completely dissolved in at least 20 ml of 75% HOL with 25% HNO 3 at 50 ° C. Since impurities should be avoided, metallic equipment should not be used. After cooling the solution, the solution was passed through a hard paper filter. In a glass beaker, 800 ml of deionized water were mixed with the surfactants Disperbyk 180 and
By using a centrifuge with 2000 rpm (800 times the acceleration of gravity g) for 10 minutes coarser particle sizes were separated and can be recycled.
A separation of finer particles with an average particle size d 50 of <80 nm should be centrifuged again. It should be centrifuged at a speed of 4700 U / min (4600 times the gravitational acceleration g) over a period of 2 hours. The residual gold particulate slurry was washed with water to reduce the sodium content in the solution. Apart from gold, residues of sodium chloride from the synthesis were present, which can be reduced by further washing of the particle-containing solution. As a result, it was possible to obtain particles of a size which were suitable for the production of printable inkjet inks.
In order to make a printable ink from the obtained gold nanoparticles, the gold sludge was first filled with water after the centrifugal treatment, so that a gold solid content of 25 mass was achieved in the solution. The density of the ink was then 1.3 g / cm 3 . By adding 0.05 mass% of Byk 348, the surface tension was lowered to 30 mNm.
The gold nanoparticle inks prepared were printed on 21 mm long meander test structures using a commercial ink jet machine with Dimatiax SE128 printhead on silicon wafers and alumina substrates. The line width achieved was 120 μm and the layer thickness in single print was 1.5 μm. After a heat treatment above 300 ° C a significant sintering occurred with a drop in electrical resistance to 4.7 ohms. This results in a specific electrical resistivity of the printed gold interconnect of 9.53 μOhmcm, which corresponds to a value less than five times that of pure bulk gold of 2.21 μOhmcm.
Beispiel 3:Example 3:
For the production of gold nanoparticles with an average particle size d 50 of about 20 nm, 10 g of gold in 13 ml of a hydrochloric acid-nitric acid mixture, as in example 3 were completely dissolved. Again, no metallic vessels or equipment should be used because of the desired purity. After cooling, this solution was filtered through a hard paper filter.
For a precipitation of gold particles to be carried out, the 50-fold mass of deionized water was added in relation to the gold mass used and the whole was mixed in a magnetic stirrer. The surface tension ratios were influenced by the addition of
Subsequently, the previously prepared acid mixture in which the gold was contained was added to the surfactant water mixture and the whole was homogenized. To monitor the pH, a pH sensor was used.
This mixture was then warmed to 60 ° C and then added with 3-5 molar NaOH. After reaching a pH of 7, this then dropped to a pH between 1.5 and 2. The pH reached is influenced by the proportion of surfactant.
After further metered addition of 1 molar NaOH, the pH was stabilized at 7 again. If this pH could be kept constant for a period of between 5 and 10 minutes, the pH was increased to 10 by addition of NaOH and kept constant there.
The synthesis reaction concluded that there were gold particles precipitated.
The finer nanoparticles could then be separated by centrifugation analogously to Example 2.
The sediment can be separated by centrifuging and then washed several times to remove Na and NaCl as completely as possible.
The unused coarse fraction of the sediment can be recycled. This avoids larger gold losses.
Beispiel 4:Example 4:
In a first step, 10 g of a commercial platinum powder in at least 16 ml of a mixture of 75% by mass HCL with 25% by mass of HNO 3 , at a temperature at the boiling point of nitric acid in the amount of about 86 ° C completely dissolved. Since other metals would also dissolve in the acid mixture and cause contamination of the platinum, no metallic devices should be used. After cooling, the solution was passed through a hard paper filter. In a glass beaker, 500 ml of deionized water were mixed with surfactant (
Der zurückbleibende Platin Partikelschlamm wurde mit Wasser gewaschen, um den Natrium-Gehalt in der Lösung zu verringern.25% hydrazine hydrate solution (70-80% of the mass of the platinum used was added to the mixture and the pH was titrated to a neutral pH by addition of NaOH (3 to 5 molar) With increasing reaction time, the pH value of 7 fell again to a pH of 1 to 2. By further metering in of NaOH, the pH value was stabilized at pH 7. After a further 5 to 10 minutes, no further pH change occurred. The pH was then increased and stabilized by further addition of NaOH to a pH of 9. During the increase in the pH, platinum nanoparticles precipitate in the solution by using a centrifuge with 2000 U Coarser particle sizes were separated off for 10 minutes (at 800 times the gravitational acceleration g) The supernatant liquid was centrifuged out at a speed of 4600 rpm to give a fine sediment which was washed and allowed to print Ink can be processed. The remaining platinum particulate slurry was washed with water to reduce the sodium content in the solution.
Beispiel 5:Example 5:
For the preparation of nanoparticles of platinum with an average particle size d 50 of about 30 nm, the procedure was as follows:
10 g of platinum were completely dissolved in 12 ml of an acid mixture (75% by mass of HCl and 25% by mass of HNO 3 ).
Again, no metal vessels and equipment should be used.
This solution was also filtered through a hard paper filter.
In deionized water with a mass 50 times greater than the platinum used, ie a mass of water of 500 g each 10 g of the
After homogenization, 70 to 80% by mass of hydrazine hydrate were added in relation to the platinum used.
By trituration of 3-5 molar NaOH, the pH was influenced.
After a very short time, a pH of 10 was reached and platinum particles precipitated.
Nanoparticles in the desired particle size range could be separated from the sediment by centrifuging, as explained in Example 3.
Again, precious metal losses can be reduced by recycling.
