Machine for shaping and grinding bodies in the form of toroidal sectors. The present invention is a machine for shaping and grinding key bodies in the form of toroidal sectors.
It is characterized in that it comprises a frame in which are guided transmission members intended to move the body to be shaped relative to one another and a tool of the type of those which make their way through. material by removing particles from it where they come into contact with it, the relative movement of the body and the tool being such that the surface-envelopes the points of contact of the tool with the body in which it is s' is delivered through either a toroidal surface.
Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of the machine; The fib. 2 is a horizontal section along the line A-B of FIG. 1 through the transmission mechanism and the mechanism used to adjust the radius of the planetary movement given to the tool; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section along the line L-D of FIG. 1 through the driving gear of the tool; Fig. 4 is another horizontal section taken along the line E-F of FIG. 1 through a large drum carrying the key shaft the tool.
In the embodiment shown. the tool is a grinding wheel 1 mounted cantilevered at the lower end of a vertical shaft 2. This shaft is journaled in a small drum 23 on which it is mounted eccentrically, but parallel to the axis of said drum, which has its median axis remote from the axis of the large drum 24 in which it is itself movable. The drum 23 carries, rotatably mounted on it, a shaft 31 integral with two pinions 32 and 33.
The pinion 33 en- () Irene with a pinion integral with the shaft 2, while the pinion 32 meshes with a pin gnon located on the axis of the large drum, solid with the shaft 30 which receives its movement, of shaft 4 by angle gear 29.
The drum 23 itself carries a den ture 31 concentric with. the surface by which it is guided in the large drum; this toothing meshes with a corresponding toothing of a wheel 35 integral with the barrel 37.
47 is a divided disc mounted on an endless screw 26 situated behind the plane of the figure and meshing tangentially with the wheel -15. This wheel has the shape of a crown having a helical toothing on its periphery and a thread inside it. This crown 45 is housed in a suitable groove of the frame in which it can only rotate. This crown is screwed by a corresponding thread of the sleeve 42 on this sleeve which is guided parallel to the axis by guides 43 and 44. Inside this sleeve is movable circularly, but not axially, another sleeve 41 provided with two threads of different pitches 40 and 38, which are engaged in the corresponding threads -, of the barrel 39 and of the barrel 37.
The large drum 24 meshes by its toothing 25 with the pinion 26 which itself meshes with the pinion 27 which is part of the drive train.
Furthermore, the drive train has a shaft 15 which, through the bevel gear 14 transmits the movement to the square shaft 13 on which slides another bevel pinion 12 associated with the pinion 11 of the shaft 10. This shaft carries a button. which penetrates into a groove made inside a cylindrical bore that of a rack 8 that recti-line guides not shown prevent turning. This groove, of the helical type, is closed on itself and has a winding on the left on a half-turn and on the right on the other half-turn, these two threads in opposite directions joining at their ends. The rack 8 meshes with the toothed sector 7 whose shaft 6 is perpendicular to the figure and carries the body to be shaped 48.
The guides of the rack are carried by a movable support 16 which can slide on the frame parallel to the worm 18 which is used to control these movements by means of the shaft 19 rotating in the sinet necks 20 and 20 'of the frame 17.
On the frame 17 is fixed the head 3 by means of the base plate 21 and several ribs 22. The operation of the machine is as follows: A part 50, to be ground for example, and having a toroidal channel 48 , is mounted on the support 5 integral with the shaft 6 so that its plane of symmetry includes the geometric axis of the large drum 24. To adjust things in this way, recourse is had to a positive transverse adjustment device, not shown.
In the embodiment shown, the distance which separates the axis of the drum 23 from the axis of the large drum is the same as that which separates it from the axis of the shaft 2; then, in the position shown, the axis of the shaft 2 also coincides with the axis of the large drum, while the device is intended precisely to ensure that it can be moved away from it in order to be driven in a planetary movement by the rotation of the large drum. In the machine shown, the tool is a grinding wheel in the form of a spherical zone belonging to a sphere the diameter of which is equal to that of the circular axial section of the torus to be ground, so that the planetary movement of the shaft is useless for the generation of the torus and can have a zero radius.
It can be seen that the groove of the rack is propelled by the button 9 so as to transform the rotational movement into an alter native translation of the rack which in turn transmits an alternating rotation to the sector 7 integral with the body 48, so that the torus can be generated on the sole condition that the spherical zone is high enough for the position that one intends to impose on the grinding wheel below the horizontal led by axis 6.
When we want to rectify the inside of a toroidal channel with a diameter greater than that of the grinding wheel, we must give a non-zero value to the distance separating the axis of the tool from the axis of the large drum 24 For this, the axis of the shaft 2 must be rotated around the axis of the small drum 23. For this purpose, the worm 46 is rotated which in turn turns the crown 45, the which imparts an axial movement to the sleeve 42 and to the sleeve 41 even if the latter is driven in rotation by the fact that its internal threads are engaged in the corresponding threads of the two rotary barrels 39 and 37.
The threads 40 and 38 having different pitches, the axial translation of the barrel 41 produces a relative rotation of the barrels 37 and 39, so that the teeth 34 will rotate the small drum 23 relative to the large drum 24.
In order for the envelope surface described by the tool to meet the same conditions as in the figure, the arc of a circle taken as line generating the surface of revolution of the tool must have a distance equal to the radius of the tool. planetary decentring increased by the radius of the tool, i.e. the tool will have a barrel or bucket shape, the axis of the tool being located between the arc of a circle and the center of curvature of it.
It will be understood that the mean radius of the torus obtained depends on the position which will have been given beforehand to the mobile support 16 of the rack and of the shaft 6. It can be seen that the pinion 12, being able to slide on the shaft 13, does not stop to be driven by it in rotation and to control the reciprocating movement.
The tool can be a mill as well as a grinding wheel. When the eccentricity is large and the tool diameter is small, the tool can generate the outer surface of a torus. The shape of the tool and the movements can be combined so that the surface of the torus is threaded.
Whether the tool is a milling cutter or a grinding wheel and whether or not the edge of a milling tooth is a flat curve, those of its points at which the tool engages material may be located so that they pass through. , while rotating, the same axial plane, by points which are located on this plane in an arc of a circle. The center of this arc can be on the tool axis or be distant from it.
When the tool has exactly the shape defined above such as describing a sphere, the entire surface of the tool comes into contact with the torus on a plane which passes through the axis of the torus, which is inclined in fig. 1 by the fact of the position given to the tool. Under these conditions, uniform wear of the tool is obtained, wear which is all the more reduced at each point as the spherical zone is wider. As this wear is uniform, it can be exactly compensated by an increase in the planetary radius.
For the work of toroidal surfaces the diameter of which should be varied, for example to enlarge the toroidal channel by a significant amount by several passes of the tool, the control of the screw 46 can be made automatic. determines the planetary eccentricity.
