Machine tool for threading revolution bodies with a convex surface. The present invention relates to a machine tool for threading bodies of revolution. convex surface, in which the body to. thread is held fixed by clamping means and which comprises transmission means from a motor member to, the tool imparting to the latter a rotational movement around the body to be threaded and a longitudinal translational movement, characterized in e. that the mentioned tool is an annular milling cutter whose teeth are turned inwards,
the internal diameter of this cutter being greater than the external diameter of the body to be threaded, and said transmission means further imparting to said cutter a proper rotational movement about its axis.
The attached tlesin represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
The fi-. 1 and \? are overall views in elevation of the machine mounted on its support; Fig. 3 is a front view showing the assembly of the machine on its support; Fig. 4 is a front view of the machine; Fig. 5 is a quick end on the opposite side, showing the mounting clamp on the pipe to be threaded, the main part shown in fig. 4 not shown for clarity;
Fig. 6 is a view of a machine similar to. that of FIG. 4, but which differs from it in that the 'members of the posterior part occupy a different angular position with respect to the axis of the pipe, the members 16 and 18 as well as the shaft 6 being assumed in the plane following which the cut that is this fig. 6 Fig. 7 is a sectional view of the gear change; Fig. 8 is a front view of the cutter mounted on this machine, and FIG. 9 a profile-cross-sectional view of this milling cutter;
Figs. 10 and 11 show on a larger scale under the same two aspects only a section of this cutter.
In the description which will follow, it will be described first of all the die, then the combined special tool and for the implementation of which it was created, finally the auxiliary support.
A threading machine as shown in these figures is made as follows: In a housing 1 is rotatably mounted a general support 2 (fig. 6). The latter has an eccentric recess visible in FIG. 4, in which is housed an exchangeable bearing 3, a pierced lug or yoke 4 of which is freely traversed by an anti-friction ring 5 surrounding a shaft 6. On this shaft is wedged a toothed wheel 7 in mesh with the external teeth 8 d 'an 8 ring'.
The end 9 of this ring has an external screw thread onto which a castellated nut 11 is screwed in order to tighten an annular cutter 10 with internal teeth 66 against a conical seat formed inside the end 9. The oscillating bearing 3 is held. laterally by the flange of the ring gear 12 to which the gearbox 13 is secured.
The flange of the crown 12 carries the vernier scale at 14. In the boss 15 is formed a rectangular mortise, in which passes the rectilinear cam or ramp 16 and an oblique slot 17 receives a roller 18 placed at the end of the connecting rod 19, this connecting rod integral with the conical axis 20. being integral with the pinion 21 which controls the rack 22 of the oscillating bearing 3. The connecting rod 19 can be made independent of the axis 20 by loosening the locknut 22 '.
All the parts listed above form a block which turns in the housing 1. The rotational movement is obtained by the pinion 25 which meshes with the toothed wheel 26 - whose end (the axis is cut in pin gnon 27 meshing with crown 28 if it is pushed to the limit. Otherwise, it is pinion 27 'which engages with 28, but drives the assembly at a lower speed, thanks to the gear 26 'controlled by the pin 27 ". The crown 28 is integral with the part 29 which is itself integral with the general housing 1 thanks to the screws 30, 30', etc.
The housing 1 comprises at. right and left of columns 31 and 32 blocked on the housing 1. by nuts, one of which, 33, is. only visible in the drawing. Pinions 34 and 35 rotate: respectively, on the one hand, in columns 31 and 32 and, on the other hand, in externally threaded rings, rings of which one, designated by 36, is visible in FIG. 6. This ring is screwed into the cover 37 itself secured to the. piece 29, in which it is screwed. The hub of the wheel 34 is threaded and receives the plug 38 which blocks the lug 39 - of the lead screw 40 engaged in the hollow column 31 which is provided with a groove 31 ', the same of which, 32', is visible in fia. 5.
The gears '34, 35 are controlled by the pinions 41 and 42 wedged on the axles of the wheels 43 and 44 which are engaged with the crown 12 and one of the pairs comprises an intermediate 44 ', intended to ensure a rotation in the opposite direction to screws 40 and 40 '. Finally, a crown 8 is integral with a mill holder 8 'and is held laterally in the oscillating bearing by a ring 46 and a nut 45, while indexes 47 and 48 are fixed to the oscillating bearing 3 by a screw 49 .
This movable block is supported by the columns 31 and 32 which can slide in the housings 50, 51, formed in the end parts of the vice and connected by the hollow shaft 52, on which the jaws 53-54 are fitted which hug the tube 55 by means of the screw 56 and the nuts 57 and 58 (the first being only visible in the: drawing).
The frame of the vice also carries on either side a kind of piston 59, the head of which penetrates through the groove 31 'at the end forms a portion of teeth or thread engaging in the hollow of the threads of the corresponding lead screw 40 or 40 'under the pressure of the spring 60, while the other end of this piston rod is. cut to the. like a rack 61 to mesh with the piston or toothed sector 62 that a yoke or rod 63 and a control rod 64 secured to the rod and the symmetrical pinion controlling the piston of the second lead screw.
this arrangement therefore simultaneously engaging with the lead screws or out of action the two teeth engaging in the threads of the two lead screws.
The operation of such a machine is as follows: A tube 55 is clamped between the jaws 53 and 54 using a wrench at (i8, then the rod 64 is actuated which releases the fingers or pis tons 59 and consequently frees the lead screws 10-411 '. By pushing or pulling the machine, the assembly is made to slide freely, so that the. Milling cutter comes into place near the part to be threaded -of the tube. 55. Then the rod 64 is released, the pistons 59 pushed by the springs 60 engage their threaded end like a portion of a wheel between the threads of the lead screws 40 and 40 '.
The strawberry 10 is then brought to the bottom of the thread; theoretical as one finger execute it on the tube, this by loosening the nut 22 'and by turning the button 66 which acts on the axis 21 and drives the rack 22 of the winking bone bearing. With the cutter 10 in place, the nut 22 'is tightened which makes it integral. connecting rod 19 of the axis 20; the roller 18 being trapped in the light 1 7 .de the cam 16, therefore immobilizes the. connecting rod which can only move if the cam 16 slides.
The machine being thus ready to operate, the crank 67 is turned, the pinion 25 drives 26 and 27, the latter is set to. roll on the internal teeth 8 driving the central block, while the pinion 7 rotates the. strawberry on itself. It therefore follows a planetary movement executed by the milling cutter 10 having as an inner limit circle for the apex of its teeth the thread bottom of the tube 65, the milling cutter 10 therefore works by enveloping the part to be threaded of the tube.
The crown wheel 12 by rotating drives the sets of pinions 42, 44, 44 'and 34, on the one hand, and 43, 41 and 35, on the other hand, and consequently the screws 40 and 40' one by one. . left and the other on the right. The latter, by turning, are screwed into the nut portions formed by the end of the pistons 59 and thus cause the progressive advance of the assembly towards the vice.
The teeth from 68 to 68 'of the milling cutter attack the piece to be threaded and trace therein a helical groove corresponding to the pitch of the lead screw, the thread thus obtained will be cylindrical, the section of the thread being simply sorting of the kind of strawberry mounted in my china.
To make a conical screw, we place the edge of the tube 55 so that it is ready to. be attacked by the cutter 10 at the same time as the roller 1-8 is in contact with the circular reproducer 24 which, being integral with the vice, is fixed with respect to the cam or ramp 16 which, not being able to advance, forces the roller 18 to change position in light 17, which moves cutter 10 away from tube 5.5 by an amount equal to the displacement of roller 18 and thus results in a tapered thread.
It is necessary, when adjusting the cutter, to take into account on the vernier .des.decalages that the taper causes in the -dia meter of the threads.
To cut a tube, the lead screws are disengaged, the milling cutter then traces a closed groove on itself, and suitably adjusted, activates the tube, thus constituting an annular circular saw with internal teeth.
To thread on the right or on the left, we change the screws between them, we place the cutter upside down and we turn it. crank in the other direction.
Polish to obtain threads of different pitches, one simply changes the set of screws, the fingers or end combs of 59 which act as remaining nut used for any pitch.
Such a machine can be produced in any size, be moved by hand, by motor or by transmission of any force.
The strawberry specially intended for. this machine has the following characters, more visible. in fig. 8 to 11.
This cutter is in the form of a ring with a large number of teeth oriented at. the interior towards the center This arrangement allows the teeth arranged in concavity to attack the cylindrical part on a part of thread much longer and with a greater number of teeth than 1_es cutters. external toothing and a small number of teeth rotating around the pipe to be threaded, this results in a total absence of grinding or veneers.
The teeth of this cutter are arranged in several rows and cut to be circumscribed on a truncated cone and thus present a maximum diameter at the entry, then gradually decreasing so that the tooth 69 outlines the outline of the thread. at very shallow depth, while tooth 69 'then attacking brings the thread to termination and tooth 69 "only has to grind to the exact depth and polish. From there </ B> less rapid wear of the teeth which each remove only a very small chip, and a perfect finish.
This particular arrangement of the teeth allows, instead of a plunging attack, a progressive attack by advancing along the generatrices of the piece to be threaded.
In addition, the teeth are inclined so that their obliqueness prevents the flanks 70 from touching the flanks -de la. part worked elsewhere than at the cutting point 71, so that the cutter does not butt.
Finally, the angle of attack or opening of the truncated cone formed is a function of the pitch and decreases with it.
Furthermore, it is also noted that the exterior -de the cutter is conical in order to facilitate assembly and centering and that a pure keying groove 7 \? prevents it from turning.
As we have seen above, the milling cutter has a diameter greater than that of the tube or of the threading rod which enters it and its key axis of rotation is eccentric with respect to the axis of the tube being worked, the machine producing, by same time as the rotational movement. the planetary movement around the tube and the forward movement.
To thread .des long enough tubes needing to be effectively supported by an adjustable tool, an oscillating support is added to the machine which allows the members tightening the tube to oscillate with the latter at the same time as the. threading machine. This support consists of a cradle adjustable in height such as those employed in artillery to ensure the mobility of the guns on their mount. dan: the vertical plane.
Fig. 1 shows the threading machine mounted on its oscillating support in the thread position of a short tube.
The fi-. \? represents the same machine, but with a long tube supported by a ser vant. The oscillating support consists of two feet 73 (only one of which is visible, the machine being seen in profile). These feet are assembled parallel and to. a certain distance by the spacers such as 74, 74 '. On the trestle thus formed is bolted the cradle 75 by means of the screws 75 'and 75 "solid of the body of the cradle 75.
Lugs 76 are made of cast iron, for example, and are pierced with a hole through which passes a pin 7 7 on which the threading machine will journal on which a special bearing has been provided. For this purpose, an openwork sector 78 is made on each side of the cradle. A bracket 79 crossed by the bolt 80 can be locked there against the internal face of the cradle 75 by tightening the nut to. ears 81.
When the year threads a short tube on the machine, the latter is mobilized in the position of fig. 1. because it is not heavy enough to require support. While in the case of FIG. \? we can easily understand that the tender tube:
to bring the. machine backwards or even simply for distorting its organs: also a servant 82 is placed at an appropriate height, and always the same for any size of tube. To do this, it suffices to loosen the wing nuts 81 which free the square 79 integral with the threading machine and allow the assembly to pivot on the axis 77. The tube being placed on its serving and the wing nuts. 81 being blocked, the tube can be threaded in complete safety.
Fig. 3 shows the threading machine on its support seen from the front, the latter comprising all the components mentioned above with in addition @lcux springs powerful enough to hold the machine in place.
empty or with a very short tube, while under the force of an unmaintained lon_I @ tube, the whole doing. bend the springs 83, their - help 84 enter the vise body and the tube can touch the ground without risking bending the vise or the machine. This device makes it possible to use the machine without having to block the @, q, ierres 79 during work, the latter being tight only for transport.
wasn’t,
