Abstract
"PROCESSO DE POLIMERIZAçãO". Um processo para preparar polímero hidrossolúvel ou distensível em água compreendendo as etapas de, (a) formar uma mistura aquosa compreendendo, (i) um monómero etilenicamente insaturado hidrossolúvel ou mistura de monómeros e, (ii) um iniciador ultravioleta, (b) realizar polimerização submetendo a mistura aquosa formada na etapa (a) a condições de polimerização para formar um polímero do monómero ou mistura de monómeros referidos, (c) submeter o polímero formado na etapa (b) a radiação de luz ultravioleta, caracterizado pelo fato de que a etapa de polimerização (b) é conduzida essencialmente na ausência de radiação ultravioleta. Em um aspecto preferencial o iniciador ultravioleta é distribuído por todo o polímero formado na etapa (b). Em outro aspecto preferencial a etapa (b) é luz ultravioleta conduzida em uma intensidade de até 500 miliWatts/cm^ 2^. Também é reivindicado um método para reduzir o teor de monómero residual no polímero hidrossolúvel ou distensível em água submetendo o polímero a irradiação ultravioleta na presença de um iniciador ultravioleta. O processo é particularmente adequado para preparar polímeros hidrossolúveis ou distensíveis em água altamente eficazes úteis como floculantes, coagulantes, modificadores da reologia, dispersantes, superabsorventes e aglutinantes.
