<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Packages made by the present process can be filled with any commodity.
In the example described below, it is the packaging of tea portions.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the machine, moreover only insofar as this is necessary to understand the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in perspective the envelope of a package to be manufactured; the pin 2 is a vertical section through the cutting, preliminary drawing, final drawing, bending, perforating and trimming tools; Fig. 3 represents the same things as Fig. 2, on a smaller scale and in exterior view, as well as the two material web control devices located in front of and behind the tools; fig 4 is the plane of fig 3; Fig 5 is a vertical section perpendicular to the direction of web movement, and Fig 6 illustrates a fragment taken from the web after a preliminary cut.
The envelope of the packaging 1 (fig. 1) of round section has at the bottom perforations. 2 through which the water used to prepare the tea must enter the interior of the packaging. Said envelope 1 is drawn from a strip 3 (rod 4) of aluminum or other material, thick removed from the strip by cutting. As shown by the plan of FIG. 4, the strip 3 is passed in the direction of the arrow A through a stretching apparatus. This drawing apparatus comprises a preliminary drawing die 5 in a fixed part 4 of the machine, and a final drawing die 6 (FIG. 2).
Each of these dies is pierced at its bottom with a bore 7 for the admission of an ejector head 8 which comes flush with the bottom of the dies 5 and 6 at the end of the drawing operation but which, in the position of the tools according to fig. 2, penetrates into dies 5 and 6. These ejector heads 8 are located at the upper end of rods 9 at the end of which screws 10 are fixed and serve as stops in cooperation with shoulders 11 coming on. the fixed part 4 to limit the upward movement of the heads 8. The screws 10 are pressed against the shoulders 11 by means of springs 12 which rest on one side on the screws 10 and, on the other side, on a fixed part of the machine.
The dies 5 and 6 are arranged one behind the other in a straight line in the direction of movement A (Fig. 4) of the web 3. In addition, there is in this direction a folding die 13 behind the die. drawing 6 and which, being fixed to part 4, has in its bottom a bore 14 provided with an expulsion plate 15 which is guided by its internal bore following the bending counter-punch 16. Bolts 16a of the expulsion plate 15 pass through holes 17 of part 4 and carry at their free end a plate 18 movable upwards and downwards and subjected to the Inaction of a spring 20 which bears on a fixed part of the machine.
A punch die 21, fixed in part 4, is provided in a straight line in the direction A of movement behind the bending die 13. Said punch die is fixed to part 4 by means of screw bolts 22 and comprises a upper part 23 and a lower part 24. Piercing needles 25 are fixed in the bottom of the lower part 24. the hole 26 of the upper part 23 serves as a guide for an expulsion plate 27. The puncture needles 25 pass through the holes of the expulsion plate 27. The latter is screwed onto the rod 28 whose head 29 serves as a stop which cooperates, in the raised position of the expulsion plate 27, with a shoulder 30 of part 4 to limit its upward movement.
At the same time, the head 29 is pressed against the shoulder 30 by a spring 31 which bears against it and a fixed part of the machine. In the direction of movement A and in a straight line behind the punch die 21, a die 32 is additionally mounted in the stationary part 4 of the machine, the circular upper edge 33 of which serves as a cutting edge.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
shank and the circular lower edge 34 of which serves to pull up the upper edge of the stretched wrap of the package, the edge then being edged in a manner not shown for the attachment of a cover.
The endless advancement member is disposed below the die 32 in the form of an intermittently rotating ring 35. The actuation of this ring 35 is not shown in the drawing and is not described either. , since it is known In the direction of movement A and in a straight line in front of the preliminary drawing die 5, a cutting die 36 is provided, the shape of which is shown in plan (figo 6) by the holes 37 cut from the strip of material 3. This cutting die 36 is also firmly mounted on the part 4.
The upward and downward movement punches which cooperate with the dies 36, 5, 6, 13, 21 and 32 are arranged as follows, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the punch holder 38 is mounted in a dovetail guide 39 which comes into the fixed part 4 so as to be able to move up and down. Another punch holder 40 is mounted in a dovetail guide 41 so as to be able to move up and down. In a connecting rod 43 which engages a journal 42 integral with the punch holder 38, the crank pin 44 of a crank shaft 45 is mounted.
As the shaft 45 rotates, the holder = punch 38 also moves up and down in the dovetail guide 39. A support 46, screwed onto the holder = punch 40, is provided with Contact rollers 47 cooperating with a cam 48 of the shaft 45.
When this turns, the holder = punch 40 moves up and down relative to the punch holder 380
The punch to cut 49, attached to the loss-punch 40 in front of the direction of movement A, has in plan a shape corresponding to the holes 37 and cooperates with the die to be cut 36 to cut the holes 37 in the strip 30 in the direction of movement A and after the punch 49, a band press 50 is resiliently fixed to the punch holder 40, as follows pushers 51, screwed to the band press 50,
are guided in their movement from bottom to top in recesses 52 of the door = punch ± De At their upper end, they have a head 53 which serves as a stop in cooperation with a spacer 54 of the ports = punch 40. A compression spring 55 , placed around the pushers 51, rests on one side against the band clamp 50 and on the other side against the spacer 54 of the holder = punch 40, so that it tends to hold the band clamp 50 in the position of FIG. 2, the screw heads 53 'being pressed against the spacers 54.
A sleeve 56, fixed to the punch holder 40 in the direction of movement A in a straight line behind the band press, serves to interchangeably receive a bending punch 57 intended to cooperate with the bending counter punch. 16. Another sleeve 58, fixed to the punch holder 40 in the direction of movement A in a straight line behind the sleeve 56, serves to interchangeably receive a punch 59 pierced with holes 60, into which the punch needles enter. 25 during a working stroke of the punch holder 40.
A socket 61 is attached to the punch holder 40 in direction A in a straight line behind the sleeve 58, its outer lower edge 61a being formed as a sharp edge which, during a working stroke of the holder. punch 40, cooperates with the edge 33 of the trimming die 32, for the purpose of slicing the stretched, folded and perforated packaging envelope
A bush 53, attached to the punch holder 38 in direction A in a straight line behind the punch 49 by means of a set screw 62, carries at its free end and interchangeably a preliminary draft punch 64 intended to cooperate with the preliminary drawing die 5.
The sleeve 63 is permanently guided in a bore 65 of the punch holder 40 and, moreover, up and down, in a bore 66 of the press band 50, during its. lower stroke.
A sleeve 67, also fixed to the holder = punch 38 by means of an adjusting screw 62 in direction A in a straight line behind the sleeve 63, interchangeably receives a final drawing punch 68 cooperating with the final stretching die 6 during a working stroke of the punch holder 38.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
This sleeve 67 is also permanently guided in a bore 65 and, during a working stroke of the punch holder 38, in a bore 66 of the band press 50.
A sleeve 69, fixed to the punch holder 38 by another adjustment screw 62, is guided in its upward and downward movement by the cutting sleeve 61. A tear-off punch 70, further cooperating with the edge 34 of the die 32 for raising the upper edge of the casing is mounted at the lower end of the sleeve 69 interchangeably and resiliently, as follows
On a threaded rod 71 screwed into the recess of the sleeve 69, a bar 72 is screwed and carries at its lower end a head 73 which, while cooperating with a shoulder 74 of the punch 70 disposed on the bar 72 so as to be able to being moved, prevents said punch from falling.
A spring 75 which bears on the rod 71 and the punch 70 surrounds the bar 72 and has the tendency to press the shoulder 74 against the head 73, therefore to maintain the punch 70 in its lower position.
To avoid tensions under the action of which the strip 3 could tear, the latter is moved each time between the punch holders 38 and 40 between two passes, through a control device placed before the punch to be cut 49 provided after. the tear-off punch 70 in the direction of movement A and through a control device coupled with the first between the punches 49, 64, 68, 57, 60, 70 and the corresponding dies 36, 5, 13, 21 and 32. These two control devices are shown in figs:
3 and 4. Both actuators include lower 76 and upper 77 friction rollers. The upper friction rollers 77 are supported by slides 78 guided in their upward and downward movement along columns 79. Springs 80 are supported by their lower end on the slides 78 and by their upper ends on crossmembers 81 fixed immovably on the columns 79. Guides 82 are mounted in an oscillating manner on a fixed part of the machine. by means of pivots 83 and articulated with the slides 78 by means of pivots 84 = Each control device has two similar guides 82 joined by a rod 85.
On the punch holder 40 and over the rods 85, adjustable screw-shaped stops 86 are mounted which, during the descent of the punch holder 40 and punch holder 38, therefore when the punches are lowered, come strike against the rods 85 for cooperation with the corresponding dies and thereby oscillate the guides 82 so that the slides 78 are lifted with the friction rollers 77 so that the web is no longer supported by rollers 76 and 77 during the working stroke of the various tools.
When the punch holders 38 and 40 go up, the stops 86 allow the springs 80 to lower the slides 78, so that in the position of the tools according to FIG. 2, the upper rollers 77 again press the strip against the lower rollers 76. Two ratchet wheels 88, permanently mounted on the axis 87 of the lower rollers 76, are intended, during a rotation of the rollers 86 in the direction opposite to that of the clockwise of FIG. 3, to each cooperate with one of the spring-pressed pawls 89, while these pawls pass clockwise over the ratchet wheel 88 which remains stationary. The spring-pressed pawls 89 are pivoted in an oscillating fashion in arms 91 which, on their side, turn idle on the axes 87 of the rollers 86.
The two arms 91 are connected by a rod 90 which is articulated on them and passes through openings 91 of part 4 (FIG. 4). A connecting rod 92 is articulated on the rod 90 which receives, by a device not shown, an intermittent back and forth movement in the direction of the arrows B (FIG. 3). In the movement to the left (fig. 3) of the connecting rod 92, the rollers 96 are driven by the pawls 89 while in the opposite movement of the connecting rod 92, the pawls pass over the teeth of the stationary rocks 88. .
Since the roller 76 of one of the control devices has exactly the same diameter as the roller 76 of the other control device and the same is valid for the ratchet wheels 88 and

for the distances of the axes of the journals of the pawls with respect to the axes 87, it follows that the rollers 76 of the two control devices have the same peripheral speed in their rotation in the direction opposite to that of the hands of a watch, so that the same speed is communicated to the belt both before and after the tools and that no dangerous tension can be aroused, between the two control devices, in the belt being driven forward. also not throw off.

left-hand control tif (figo 3) runs on a packing roller not shown in the drawing.
Instead of providing the die 32 in a fixed part of the machine, it could also be done on the advancement ring 35 itself which would then come to be at the height of the die 32 (pin 2). On the other hand, the tools could have such shapes that instead of circular envelopes, one could make oval or angled envelopes.
