Virushaltiger Impfstoff, der beim Einbringen in einen Vertebraten zum Induzieren einer Immunantwort in dem Vertebraten auf ein gegebenes Pathogen befähigt ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Impfstoff als das für die Immunantwort verantwortliches Virus ein rekombinantes Avipoxvirus enthält, das ein exogenes DNA-Insert, das in einer nichtessentiellen Region in das virale Genom nach einer geeigneten Promotorensequenz inser-tiert worden ist, enthält, welches exogene DNA-Insert ein Antigen des genannten Pathogens codiert und zur Expression dieses Antigens in vivo in dem Vertebraten unter der Kontrolle der Promotorsequenz und ohne produktive Replikation des Virus im Vertebraten befähigt ist.
- 2. Impfstoff nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das rekombinante Avipoxvirus ein rekombinantes Geflügelpockenvirus oder Kanarienvogelpockenvirus ist.
- 3. Impfstoff nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das von dem rekombi-nanten Virus exprimierte Antigen, wenn das rekombinante Virus in den Vertebraten eingeführt wird, ein Antigen eines Säugetierpathogens ist.
- 4. Impfstoff nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Antigen das Tollwut G-Anti-gen, das gp51,30-Hüllantigen des Rinderleukämievirus, das FeLV-Hüllantigen des Katzenleukämievirus oder das Glykoprotein D-Antigen des Herpes simplex-Virus ist.

Rekombinantes Virus, das zu Induktion einer Immunantwort auf ein Säugetierpathogen befähigt ist, wenn es in ein Säugetier eingeführt wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das rekombinante Virus ein rekombinantes Avipoxvirus umfasst, das ein exogenes DNA-Insert, das in einer nicht-essentiellen Region des Avipoxvirusgenoms nach einer geeigneten Promotorsequenz insertiert worden ist, enthält, welches exogene DNA-Insert ein Antigen zum genannten Pathogen insertiert und zur Expression dieses Antigens in vivo in dem Säugetier unter der Kontrolle der Promotersequenz und ohne produktive Replikation des Virus im Säugetier befähigt ist.
- 6. Rekombinantes Virus nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Antigen, für welches das genannte exogene DNA-Insert codiert und das durch das rekombinante Virus im Säugetier exprimiert werden kann, das Tollwut G-Antigen, das gp51,30-Hüllantigen des Rinderleukämievirus, das FeLV-Hüllantigen des Katzenleukämievirus oder das Glykoprotein D-Antigen des Herpes Simplex-Virus ist.
- 7. Rekombinantes Virus nach Anspruch 5 oder 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das rekombinante Virus zur Expression des Antigens ohne produktive Replikation des Virus in einer Säugetierspezies, ausgewählt unter Hunden, Katzen, Mäusen, Kaninchen, Rindern, Schafen und Schweinen, befähigt ist.
- 8. Rekombinantes Virus nach einem der Ansprüche 5 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Promotorsequenz für das Antigen, für welches das exogene DNA-Insert codiert, eine Avipox-Promotorsequenz umfasst, die in das virale Genom als Teil dieses exogenen DNA-Inserts insertiert und darin vor der Antigen-codierenden Sequenz angeordnet ist, um 41 AT 408 549 B dadurch die Expression des Antigens zu fördern oder zusätzlich zu fördern, wenn das re-kombinante Virus in das Säugetier eingebracht wird.
- 9. Rekombinantes Virus nach einem der Ansprüche 5 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Promotorsequenz für das Antigen, für welches das exogene DNA-Insert codiert, eine Nicht-Avipox-Promotorsequenz umfasst, die in das virale Genom als Teil dieses exogenen DNA-Inserts insertiert und darin vor der Antigen-codierenden Sequenz angeordnet ist, um dadurch die Expression des Antigens zu fördern oder zusätzlich zu fördern, wenn das re-kombinante Virus in das Säugetier eingebracht wird.
- 10. Rekombinantes Avipoxvirus nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das exogene DNA-Insert eine Nicht-Avipox-Promotorsequenz um fasst, welche Sequenz entweder ein Vaccinia-Promotor oder ein Entomopoxpromotor ist.
- 11. Rekombinantes Avipoxvirus nach Anspruch 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Nicht-Avipox-Promotorsequenz a) eine unter den NH-, 11K- und Pi Sequenzen ausgewählte Vaccinia-Promotorsequenz oder b) eine 42K-Entomopox-Promotorsequenz ist.
- 12. Impfstoff, umfassend ein rekombinantes Virus nach einem der Ansprüche 5 bis 11.
- 13. Verfahren zum Exprimieren eines Genproduktes in vitro, gekennzeichnet durch Einführen eines rekombinanten Virus, wie in einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4 definiert oder nach einem der Ansprüche 5 bis 7 in die Zellen einer in vitro-Zellkultur, welches Virus ein exogenes DNA-Insert enthält, das in einen nicht-essentiellen Bereich des Viralgenoms nach einer geeigneten Promotorsequenz insertiert worden ist, welches exogenen DNA-Insert für das Genprodukt codiert und zur Expression dieses Genproduktes in der genannten Kultur unter der Kontrolle der Promotorsequenz und ohne produktive Replikation des Virus befähigt ist, und durch Exprimierenlassen des Genproduktes in der Zellkultur.
