Description

June 7,1949. A, B. *REED 2,472,761
' s ENSER Filed Sept. 3, 1946 INVENTOR.
Patented June 7, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TAPE DISPENSER Arthur B. Reed, Shreveport, La. Application September 3, 1946, Serial No. 694,603
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a fixture to be attached to a roll of tape and the object of the invention is to furnish means by which required sections of tape may be cut off or dispensed from the roll in neat rectangular sections and at the same time leaving on the roll an unrolled section of such length to be conveniently grasped by the fingers for subsequent dispensing operations.
One form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire invention showing how it is mounted on the roll. Figure 2 is another perspective view of the invention alone and not mounted on the roll or tape.
The tab I is for exerting pressure by the thumb of one hand and tab 2 for exerting a corresponding and opposite pressure by the forefinger of the same hand, whereby the device grips the roll on lines of pressure contact along edges 3 and 4 with the result that the unrolled section of the tape is registered squarely under the cutting table 5 and is by these pressures maintained in such position while the cutting or dispensing operation is performed by the fingers of the other hand.
The elevated position of the cutting table 5 with respect to the roll of tape provides, at the conclusion of one dispensing operation, a section of undispensed tape of such length to be easily grasped by the fingers for the beginning of the next dispensing operation.
The entire invention is fashioned of such dimensions as to fit snugly enough against the sides of the roll as to avoid any appreciable motion of the invention relative to the roll in any direction other than those in planes parallel to the sides of the roll.
c Number I am aware that prior to my invention tape dispensers have been made and I do not claim such an invention broadly: but I claim:
In a tape dispenser; a frame, and a thumb tab, a finger tab, a cutting table support, all carried by said frame, a cutting table carried by said cutting table support, said frame consisting of a sleeve of rectangular cross section, the sides of said frame being in relative spaced parallelism, and the top and bottom of said frame being in relative spaced parallelism, ported by and extending at a forward and upward inclination from the back edge of said top, said cutting table support extending at a forward and upward inclination from the front edge of said top, said cutting table extending in a forward and horizontal direction from the front edge of said cutting table support, said finger tab supported by and extending at a downward and backward inclination from the front edge of said bottom, and all of the foregoing parts being composed of a single piece of sheet material.
