UNITED STATES NICOLAUS JANECEK, F CANTON, OHIO.
TRIMMER.
Application filed March 31, 1923, Serial No. 629,082. Renewed December 3, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NIooLAUs JANnoEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trimmers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trimming devices, and more particularly to a trimmer 1 specially adapted for use in paper hanging operations.
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide a trimmer of the character stated of simple construction and operation which will serve to quickly and accurately trim the paper for hanging on the wall, this trimmer being also particularly well adapted for trimming along the upper edges of baseboards after the paper has been hung.
A further object is to provide a trimmer of the character stated which may be produced at small cost and is of very efficient construction. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of the trimmer;
Figure 2 is a side view;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the trimmer as used for trimming paper preparatory to placing the same on the wall;
Figure 4 is a side view of the trimmer used for trimming paper along the upper edge of a baseboard.
The trimmer includes a handle 1 within which is secured two arms forming a fork 2 which projects forwardly of the handle. A trimming disc 3 is rotatably mounted. on a screw 4 secured through the outer ends of the arms of the fork, this disc being cut to provide a plurality of teeth or points 5 which extend about the circumference of the disc. A plate 5 is positioned adjacent to one face of disc 3, this plate being provided, at its inner end, with outwardly projecting lugs 6 which engage above and below arm 2* of fork 2 and serve to hold the plate 5 against rocking movement on screw 4. The forward portion 5 of plate'5 is bent inwardly toward disc 8 and is then extended in the plane of the disc, this portion being shaped to provide cutting edges 5 and 5 disc serve to perforate the paper B after which the paper is cut by cutting edge 5 as illustrated, the disc 3 and the outer end portion 5 of plate 5 co-operating to hold the device in proper alignment with the edge of board or table A. For trimming along the upper edges of the baseboards, the device is turned so that edge 5 will out the paper along the upper edge of the board D, disc 3 being held at a downward and inward inclination to the board so that the points 5 perforate the paper, after which the cutting edge 5 trims off the surplus paper and forces the lower edge of the strip of paper remaining on the wall behind the upper edge of the baseboard so as to present a neat appearance. This provides very sim' ple and efiicient means whereby the paper may be readily trimmed when on the table before hanging and, after hanging, can be accurately trimmed along the upper edge of the baseboard and forced ,;behind the baseboard so as to give a finished appearance to the work.
What I claim is z 1. In a device of the character described, a hande, a fork projecting from said handle, a trimming disc positioned within the fork, a plate positioned between one of the arms of the fork and the disc, said plate projecting in advance of the disc, and being provided with a cutting portion disposed in the plane of and in advance of the disc, and a member passing through the arms of the fork and said plate and the disc and rotatably supporting said disc, said plate projecting rearwardly of said member and being provided with elements engaging the upper and lower edges of the adjacent arm of the fork.
2. In a device of the character described, a handle, a fork projecting from said handle, a trimming disc positioned within the fork, a plate positioned between one of the said plate being also provided with lugs enarms of the fork and the disc a securing gaging over and beneath the adjacent arm member passing through the arms of the of the fork.
fork and the plate and the disc and rotat- In testimony whereof I aifix my signa- 5 ably supporting said disc the plate being tune.
provided with wcutting portion positioned in advance of and in the plane of the disc, NICOLAUS JANECEK.
