Abstract

In the shoe-brake unit proposed, a push-rod designed as the threaded spindle of a clearance-adjustment device, is mounted by its ball end (3) in a matching bearing cavity (4) in the brake-shoe holder (6). This makes it possible for the push-rod (2) to move without restraint in any direction relative to the brake-shoe holder (6) while maintaining a continuous and uniform thrust over the brake-holder, hence ensuring that no flexional or shear forces are produced in the push-rod (2) at the point where the push-rod is linked to the brake-shoe holder (6). In order to hold the push-rod (2) so that it cannot rotate about its longitudinal axis, a bolt (12) passes transversely through the ball end (3), the protruding ends of the bolt fitting in horizontal grooves (14) in the brake-shoe holder (6). A coupling thrust-transmission coupling which is tightened by rotation and is releasable only when a given limiting torque is exceeded can be fitted between the ball end (3) and the push-rod (2), thus making it possible to reset the clearance-adjustment device manually by turning the push-rod.
