Abstract
A method for synthesizing a metal oxide nanopowder which is photocatalytically activated in the visible light region from a metal compound vapor. In particular, a method of doping nitrogen (N) simultaneously with the synthesis of titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanopowder from vaporous titanium tetrachloride (TiCl 4 ) is disclosed. Titanium tetrachloride vapor decomposes in an electrically induced electromagnetic plasma and reacts with the oxidizing gas to form titanium dioxide vapor, and at the same time the metal oxide vapor reacts with nitrogen radicals in the plasma region to form nitrogen doped titanium dioxide vapor. The nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-Doped TiO 2 ) nanopowder is synthesized by rapidly cooling out of the plasma region.

The present invention relates to a method for synthesizing nitrogen doped titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanopowder from vaporous titanium tetrachloride (TiCl 4 ) using an electromagnetic plasma torch.
More specifically, the vaporous titanium tetrachloride (TiCl 4 ) is passed through a 1 atmosphere electromagnetic wave plasma torch generated by a ratio of nitrogen / oxygen mixed gas to decompose the titanium tetrachloride (TiCl 4 ) and the plasma dioxide reaction Synthesis of TiO 2 ) and at the same time to synthesize a nitrogen-doped nano-powder.
R. Asahi 등에 의해 발표된 논문("Visible-Light Photocatalysis in Nitrogen-Doped Titaniuim Oxides," Science Vol. 293, pp. 269-271)에 의하면 탄소(C), 질소(N), 불소(F), 인(P), 황(S), 전이금속(Fe, Cr, Ni, Nb, Mn, etc.) Titanium dioxide (hereinafter referred to as "TiO 2 ") nanopowders are used as high-quality pigments and photocatalysts, and are also used as coating materials for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and transparent soundproof panels due to their excellent UV protection. Photocatalyst can purify pollutant through strong oxidation and reducing power when exposed to light. However, these photocatalytic properties do not occur in any light. Ultraviolet light is present in all light sources, but the intensity of the UV region is a problem for effective photoreaction. As a light source of a photocatalyst used for a special purpose, a UV lamp such as an ultra-high pressure mercury lamp is used. However, in the case of UV lamps, 70% of the energy consumed is consumed by long wavelengths (380 nm and above) and heat. Therefore, there is a need for a catalyst that is photoactive even in visible light. When dopants are doped in TiO 2 , the energy band gap can be narrowed, thereby activating the photocatalyst in the visible light region. According to a paper published by R. Asahi et al. ("Visible-Light Photocatalysis in Nitrogen-Doped Titaniuim Oxides," Science Vol. 293, pp. 269-271), carbon (C), nitrogen (N), fluorine (F), Nitrogen has been reported to be the most efficient for TiO 2 doping of phosphorus (P), sulfur (S) and transition metals (Fe, Cr, Ni, Nb, Mn, etc.). Moreover, nanoparticles are expected to have unusual electronic, mechanical, optical, chemical and magnetic properties that do not appear at micron size ( 10-6 m). The characteristics of the nanoparticles described above are such that the smaller the number of atoms or molecules constituting the particles, the more the number of surface atoms is compared with the number of atoms therein, thereby decreasing volumetric properties and increasing surface properties. This is mostly due to the Area Effect and the Capillary Effect. Therefore, since the contact area between nanoparticles and pollutants increases, the effect is much better than that of conventional microsized photocatalysts. Used by In this context, TiCl 4 is screen vapor with an oxidizing agent in a nitrogen electromagnetic plasma flame of high temperature Celsius 5000-6000 degrees can be readily synthesized in high purity nano powder TiO 2 also doped with nitrogen at the same time to synthesize the nano-powder TiO 2 The wavelength range of possible light will extend to the visible range, making it available in a wider industrial range.
The present invention has been made to solve the problems of the prior art as described above, by synthesizing a high-purity nano-powder TiO 2 by passing the vapor phase TiCl 4 through the oxygen electromagnetic plasma flame in a plasma reaction using an electromagnetic discharge instead of a high temperature thermochemical reaction. At the same time, an object of the present invention is to provide a method of synthesizing nitrogen-doped TiO 2 (N-Doped TiO 2 ) capable of photocatalytic activation in the visible region by doping nitrogen.
