Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a variable load device which does not produce the load of the drive force of a varying member, by a method wherein a variable load member by magnetic fluid is mounted to a securing member with a gap between the variable load member and the moving member. CONSTITUTION:A shaft (varying member) 2 of a magnetic material is mounted to a cylindrical housing (securing member) 1 through a bearing 3, and an annular variable load member F is mounted in the housing 1 with a gap (g) between the shaft 2 and the variable load member. In this constitution, with an electromagnet 4 energized, a magnetic circuit is formed between the electromagnet 4 and the shaft 2, and magnetic fluid 6 in a container 5 is concentrated to a portion having high magnetism density. As a result, the container 5 is resiliently deformed and is pressed against the shaft 2 for adhesion, and a friction force generated at a current time is exerted as a load on the drive force of the shaft 2. The load can be continuously set to arbitrary intensity through control of a current to the electromagnet 4.
