Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain seal by producing a magnetic flux with a permanent magnet and an electromagnet in a small gap between a rotating shaft and a stationary magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:A coil 7 provided on the side of a permanent magnet 4 nearer a shaft 1 and surrounding the shaft 1 constitutes a permanent magnet. By energizing the coil 7 a strong magnetic field with a flux density of 10,000 gausses can be established by the permanent magnet 4 and the electromagnet in a small gap between the shaft 1 and a magnetic pole 2 or 3. Thus, the magnetic restraining force acting upon the magnetic fluid 5 is increased, so that even by rotating the shaft 1 at a high speed the magnetic fluid 5 is not flung out by centrifugal forces, and the possibility of lose of the seal in the gap between the pole 2 or 3 and shaft 1 is eliminated.
