Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a catalyst carrier by anodically oxidizing a metallic material having an Al coating layer to convert the Al layer into a porous alumina layer. CONSTITUTION:An Al coating layer is formed on a metallic material such as stainless steel or heat resistant steel by vapor deposition, electroplating, hot dip plating or other method. The metallic material having the Al coating layer is immersed in an acidic soln. such as sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid and electric current is supplied with the metallic material as the anode to anodically oxidize the material. By this oxidation, the Al coating layer is converted into a porous alumina layer. The thickness of the coating layer is preferably regulated to about 0.3-10mum. Thus, producing stages are considerably simplified.
