Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the porous metal foil well suited for electrodes of batteries, diaphragms or catalysts for chemical reaction by imparting conductivity to the surface of the resin film support layer which has beforehand been made porous and electrolytically depositing metal on this surface.
CONSTITUTION: Conductivity is imparted to the surface of the foregoing porous resin film support layer by an electroless plating method or vacuum plating method. Next, the porous resin film imparted with this conductivity is dipped in a plating bath and current is supplied, whereby the porous metal foil in which metal, e.g., copper, is electrolytically deposited on this film surface is manufactured. The thickness of the electrodeposition layer of this case is made 300μ or less. Next, if necessary, the film support layer of this porous metal foil is removed by being melted or thermally decomposed through heat treatment, whereby the porous metal foil removed of the film support layer is produced.
