Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and spalling resistance, by forming a steel in which the contents of C, Cr, Mo, and V as principal chemical components and also Co content are respectively specified into a roll shape and also specifying surface hardness and hardening depth after heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:This roll is prepared by forming a steel containing, by weight, 1.2-1.6% C, 11.0-13.0% Cr, 1.5-3.0% Mo, and 0.5-1.5% V as principal chemical components and partially containing 1.5-3.0% Co into a roll shape by means of rolling or forging, and, in this roll, surface hardness and hardening depth at a depth of 5-10mm from the surface after heat treatment are regulated to HS85-90 and >=HS84, respectively. As to the above surface hardness, wear resistance is decreased when it is <=HS85 and, when >=HS90, work hardening is liable to occur during use and spalling resistance is deteriorated. Further, as to case depth, spalling resistance is decreased when it is <=5mm and, when >=10mm, working is made difficult and toughness to bending stress and impact at the time of scale breaking is reduced.
