Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably improve hardness and abrasion resistance by treating the steel containing the specific amounts of C, Si, Mn at the specific temperatures to yield the bainite structure including austenite.
CONSTITUTION: The steel composed of C; 0.3 to 1.0%, Si; 1.0 to 3.0%, Mn; 0.2 to 3.0%, the rest of Fe and unavoidable impurities is subjected to constant temperature treatment at 300 to 480°C for 2 to 30 minutes, whereby the bainite structure containing 5 to 30% of residual austenite and a small amount of martensite is obtained. This residual austenite causes considerable work hardening at the end face during shearing and gives high ductility. The production of any cracks at the corners is ovbiated and the cutting blade of intricate shapes may be formed.
