Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a machine structural boron steel with superior forgeability, machinability, notch toughness and fatigue properties by adding C, Si, Mn, B and sol. Al and esp. restricting the contents of Ti and N out of impurities.
CONSTITUTION: This machine structural boron steel has a compsn. prepared by restricting N to a predetermined amt. or less to ensure the hardenability effect of B without adding Ti to prevent deteriorations in forgeability, machinability, etc. due to conventional Ti addn. The compsn. consists of C 0.25W0.50%, Si ≤0.50%, Mn 0.30W2.00%, B 0.0003W0.0050%, sol. Al 0.020W0.060%, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. This steel has superior mechanical properties such as forgeability, hardenability, machinability, toughness and fatigue properties for end products, and further it is excellent in characteristics which are required in a process for working the steel into machine parts.
