Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a Cr-Mo steel for press. vessel improved in troughness after use in embrittle temp. range without causing decrease in high-temp. strength, by decreasing S and Mn contents of the Cr-Mo steel of specific composition, and particularly by adding a limitted amount of B.
CONSTITUTION: A Cr-Mo base steel comprising by weight, 0.08W0.20% C, ≤0.50% Si, 1.00W3.50% Cr, 0.40W1.50% Mo, ≤0.45% Mn, one or more members selected from the group consisting of 0.0005W0.005% B, 0.020W0.70% acid- soluble Al, 0.005W0.05% Ti, the balance being <0.010% S, and Fe contg. inevitable impurities. The steel is improved in toughness before embrittle treatment by decreasing S, and is restrained in embrittlement susceptibility by decreasing Mn. The decrease in high-temp. strength due to the shortage of hardening is counterbalanced by the addn. of a limitted amount of B, thereby producing a steel having excellent toughness after use in embrittle temp. range for a long time.
