PURPOSE:To permit safe and sure sepn. of the inside cores of a multi-cored optical fiber core by inserting a knife transversely into the outside coating layer of the multi-cored optical fiber core in contact with plane where the inside cores are arranged to incise the outside coating layer and to expose the inside cores and discretely separating the cores. CONSTITUTION:A tool 20 for removing the coating is provided with a pair of upper and lower arms 22a, 22b openably and closably around a pivotal shaft 23. The knife 21 is mounted near the top end on the inside surface of the upper arm 22a in a manner as to incline with a supporting base 24. An operator opens the arm 22a, places the multi-cored optical fiber core 10 in a guide part 26 of the lower arm 22b, closes the tool 20 and moves the same relatively. The upper coating part 14a of the outside coating layer 14 is then incised by the knife 21 and is continuously discharged from a discharge hole 25 of the arm 22a.
