Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a coloring matter capable of giving recordings of clear magneta color having good transferability and excellent light resistance as well as a large coloring power, having a specific structural formula, in a sublimation type heat-sensitive transfer recording system. CONSTITUTION:A red coloring matter for heat-sensitive transfer recording, represented by the formula I (where X is H or methyl and R and R' are each methyl, ethyl, propyl, or butyl), e.g., the compound of the formula II, is combined with adequate dyes of yellow color and cyanine color to obtain a full color having good reproductivity. The red coloring matter is mixed with an adequate resin, a solvent, and water to prepare an ink, and the ink is coated on a base material to obtain a transfer sheet. The sheet is overlapped on a material to be recorded and heated and pressed from the back of the sheet by means of a heat- sensitive recording head for recording.

This method involves heating a rolling sheet coated with a sublimable dye with a heat-sensitive recording head to sublimate and transfer the dye to the recording medium to obtain color recording, or if a suitable dye is developed, it can be used as a conventional method. By applying the thermal recording head used in more color-based thermal recording methods, reliable recording can be achieved with a simple and inexpensive printer. In particular, since the amount of sublimable dye transferred can be controlled by changing the energy applied to the thermal recording head, gradation recording can be obtained. Therefore, a full-color image can be easily obtained by superimposing and recording yellow, magenta, and cyan dyes.

There are anthraquinone dyes such as AO, disazo dyes such as C Esolvent Trend, 2J, and 25, but these dyes have low sublimation properties and do not have large coloring power, so they do not require the thermal energy of a normal thermal recording head. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain a transfer record with sufficient color density.

In order to solve this problem, the inventors investigated various red dyes and found that It has been found that a red colorant represented by (representing a propyl group or a butyl group) has particularly excellent performance. In other words, these dyes have much better sublimation properties than the dyes for polyester fiber transfer printing described in 3- above, and also have greater coloring power, so they can be used for practical purposes without placing a large burden on the thermal recording head. Transfer recording with a high color density is possible.

Suitable substrates for applying ink include thin paper such as condenser paper and glassine paper, and plastic films with good heat resistance such as polynisdel, polyamide, and polyimide. It needs to be thin to improve heat transfer efficiency to the pigment.
A thickness of approximately S to SO μm is appropriate. 1. Ordinary printing paper such as gravure paper, art paper, coated paper, etc. can also be used as the recording material, but in order to improve the color development of the pigment, it is necessary to coat it with a resin that is compatible with the pigment. It is also possible to use coated, impregnated or laminated papers, as well as special treated papers that have been acetylated. In addition, films of various resins or synthetic papers made from them can also be used.By heat-pressing and laminating, for example, a polyester film on the transfer recording surface, the coloring of the dye can be improved and the storage stability of the recording can be stabilized.
