Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a machine roll for mold-forming glass with excellent oxidation resistance and heat crack resistance by adjusting a steel composition to a specific high Cr-Ni steel composition.
CONSTITUTION: Said alloy comprises, in the % basis, 0.01W0.20 C, 0.10W1.5 Si, 0.10W2.0 Mn, 0.10W6.0 Ni, 14.0W18.0 Cr and the remainder Fe substantially. Herein, the upper and the lower limits of C is determined from a standpoint of toughness and heat crack property. Si and Mn are necessary in deacidification but, when the upper limit thereof is exceeded, toughness is lowered. Ni is required in an amount of the lower limit or more from a standpoint of heat crack resistance improving effect but, the upper limit thereof is exceeded, reverse effect is developed. Cr is required in an amount of the lower limit or more in order to obtain effect preventing generation of case roughness and heat crack but, the upper limit thereof is exceeded, heat crack is easily generated.
