Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate welding procedure in preparing stationary pipes to a single Vee or single U groove and butt-welding these by injecting an inert gas and cooling a molten pool forcibly, thereby obtaining the penetrated section of an inverted Vee shape. CONSTITUTION:In preparing stationary pipes to a single Vee or single U groove and butt-welding these, an arc is generated between a tungsten electrode 6 and base materials 1. A filler metal 7 is supplied and an inert gas is injected through a flat nozzle 9 at an angle alpha from the rear of the welding advance direction. A cooled and solidifed layer 3 is formed on the surface of a molten pool 2 by this gas, whereby the penetrated sectional shape of an inverted Vee shape is obtained. Melt-down is prevented by this and welding procedure is made easy.
