Abstract
PURPOSE: To smooth weld zones, eliminate the need for post-grinding and post- finishing and improve the reproducibility of welding quality by reciprocatively welding the front side of a square groove by giving the specific welding torch angle then fusion welding without filler metal on the back side.
CONSTITUTION: A wire which also serves as an electrode of a MIG welding torch 5 is set at an angle of inclination of 60° to 80° to the surface of the base metal 1 to be welded in the direction intersecting at a right angle to the direction where a square groove extends and reciprocative welding is performed. On the way forward, are 8 is produced in the lower part in the weld groove and the weld metal completely exposes down to the bottom. On the way back, it turns out that the weld zone of the forward weld is rewelded thereon, and this yields the weld zone having reinforcement of weld. The weld metal exposed in the bottom assumes nearly a smooth state because a grooveless backing plate 9 is used. Smooth weld beads are obtained by fusion welding without filler metal on the back through TIG welding.
