Abstract

PURPOSE: To form uranami beads in stable and even concave form by disposing an injection nozzle below an electrode and letting gas be spouted therethrough so that molten pool is forced upward.
CONSTITUTION: In the vertical down position B of welding position, molten pool 17 droops to the preceding electrode 11 side owing to gravity, trying to short with the electrode 11. When at this time gas is spouted through the injection nozzle 21b positioned below the electrode 11, then the molten pool 10 is pushed upward and therefore there is no need for taking arc length long by moving the electrode 11 apart from the molten pool 17 as in conventional methods and further it turns out that the gas being spouted deflects arc 18 backward to assist the penetration to the back side, thus the uranami bead width is taken wider than the front bead width, whereby uranami beads 19 are formed to convex shape. Even in the up position part A welding where the uranami beads 19 are insufficient, spouting the gas through the front injection nozzle 21b yields the uranami beads 19 of even convex form.
