Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catamaran yacht, which assures stable sailing, by providing a hinge at a position lower than the center of gravity on the center line of the yacht and by allowing the left and right pontoons and the deck to swing laterally.
CONSTITUTION: Left and right pontoons 1 of a yacht, which constructs a catamaran yacht, are formed into shallow and flat configurations. With each pontoon 1 is provided a hinged portions 2, which are respectively located at front and rear positions on the center line thereof, and lower than the center of gravity on said center line. The hinged ortions 2 of each pontoon 1 are each connected by a pin 5 with a coupling member 4 connecting the left and right pontoons together and having legs 4' by both ends thereof, whereby said catamaran 1 is constructed. The front and rear members 4 are connected to each other by main coupling members 7 which are disposed at the front and rear positions of the pontoons 1. Then, a mast 15, is attached to the frame extending between both pontoons 1 and a canvas 17 is attached to the mast 15. With the above construction, the pontoons 1 are movable in a direction, which intersects at right angle the axial direction of its sailing line, by the pins 5 of the hinge 2. And also when the sail of the yacht is trimmed, each pontoon 1 can sail under a horizontally equilibrated condition, namely the pontoons 1 can always be maintained in parallel, and thus the operation of this yacht is good.
