Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a silent discharge type gas laser which is compact and highly efficient as well as convergent by supplying a voltage having a phase difference of 180 deg. from the single-phase three-wire system high-frequency high-voltage supply source having the intermediate point grounded. CONSTITUTION:The gas system is the same as conventional devices, the high- voltage supply source is a single-phase three-wire system high-frequency high-voltage supply source 8a using a booster unit 82a having the intermediate point grounded, and a voltage V2 having a phase difference of 180 deg. from the voltage V1 applied to a dielectric electrode 1 is applied to a dielectric electrode 2. By said constitution, when the same discharge power is supplied, it is sufficient for the dielectric strength between the laser tube body 4 and the electrode 1 to have a peak voltage half as much as those of conventional devices, and it is also sufficient for the insulating distances from the tube body 4 and the electrodes 1 and 2 to be approximately half as much as them, so that the device can be made more compact. Moreover, the discharge condictions are symmetric with respect to both the electrodes 1 and 2, and the energy is never by consumed at other than the discharge space 3, so that the oscillation efficiency improves. In addition, because the discharge distribution is symmetric, a beam of excellent convergent property can be obtained.
