Abstract
PURPOSE:To abruptly form the rise of a pulse of the output of a laser and to enhance the energy conversion rate by providing an auxiliary DC discharge unit in the vicinity of a voiceless discharger at the upstream side of a laser medium passage. CONSTITUTION:A mixture gas is flowed as a laser medium within the prescribed interval of a pair of dielectric electrodes 1 in a direction of an arrow 7, a high frequency voltage is applied from a power source 3 between the electrodes 1, and many metal electrodes 11 for producing an auxiliary DC discharge are arranged axially of laser light in the vicinity of the voiceless discharger 5 at the upstream side of a laser medium passage. A power of approx. 10% of main discharge is applied from a DC power source 14, electrons are generated at the discharger 15, the laser medium is preliminarily excited, and is made to flow into the voiceless discharger 5.
