Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the steel sheet provided with desired taper or steps possible to be exactly manufactured, in the automatic sheet thickness controlling method for detecting the deviation of the actual rolling load from the reference load, by varying above stated reference load correspondingly to the traveling distance of the rolled material. CONSTITUTION:The material 8 is controlled according to the rolling load detector 18 and the reference load F0 corresponding to the thickness by the conventional method through the controller 20; with the progress of the rolling work, the required longitudinal thickness variation is operated by the arithmetic unit 28 (depending on the specified formular) according to the outputs of the rolled material's traveling distance measuring device 26 and of the external setter 22 for setting the longitudinal thickness variation of the material 8 as the function of its traveling distance; the output of the arithmetic unit 28 is inputted into above stated controller 20 in order to vary the above stated reference load F0 and also to vary the longitudinal thickness of the material 8. As a result, even if the fluctuation of the entry side thickness of the material 8 and the fluctuation of the deformation resistance owing to the longitudinal temperature variation, etc., are existing, the required exit side thickness can be obtained without being affected by these fluctuations.
