Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically supply secondary air to an exhaust system employing a catalytic converter, a thermal reactor or the like, by using power based on the negative pressure which is produced in an intake pipe at the time of idling or drastic deceleration.
CONSTITUTION: When a diaphragm 8 is moved toward a pump chamber 7 by a spring 22, a changeover valve 13 is pushed up and a retainer 16 is tilted so that an atmospheric pressure passage 10 is closed by a ball valve 18 and a negative pressure passage 12 connected to an intake manifold is opened. As a result, the pressure in a pressure changer 9 becomes negative and the diaphragm 8 is moved down against the spring 22. At the time, a reed valve 1 at an inlet port 2 is opened to suck air from an air cleaner 21 into the pump chamber 7. The external air is then introduced into the pressure chamber 9 in contrast with the preceding case by the reverse- swing shifting action of the changeover valve 13 around a fulcrum 19 so that the diaphragm 8 is moved up and the air in the pump chamber 7 is transferred under pressure to an exhaust passage 5 through a reed valve 1'.
