Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a uniform coat on one side along of a steel belt with high speed by a procedure in which an oil-dispersed solution containing a synthetic flaky silicate compound as the main component is coated over the one side of a steel belt after cold rolling, and then the steel belt is heat-treated and then passed into a plating layer. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic flaky silicate compound, e.g., sodium tetrasilicic mica, etc., is dispered into an oil, e.g., rolling oil, silicon oil, etc., to prepare a dispersion, and then the dispersion is directly coated over the one side of a steel belt in a proportion of approx. 0.01 to 50 g/m<2> of the synthetic flaky silicate compound. The coat is added with a compound by which the adhesion of the coat is raised if necessary. Then, it is heated at a temperature above the decomposing temperature of the oil to form a high polymer film, passed through a hot plating layer to form a plating layer on the uncoated clean side, and then treated with water of an alkaline aqueous solution for removal of the masking film. This method can remove the masking film in a short time.
