Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily galvanize one side alone of a steel strip by applying or electrodepositing a carbon-base anti-galvanizing agent to one side of the strip, drying it, and passing the strip through a molten Zn bath in a reducing or nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An anti-galvanizing agent is applied to one side of cold rolled steel strip 4 with roll coater 2 or sprayer 3 in anti-galvanizing agent applying chamber 1. The agent is prepared by dispersing carbon powder in a soln. of styrene resin in xylene or acrylic acid type resin and carbon powder in an aqueous triethanolamine soln. The carbon applied is baked to strip 4 at >=400 deg.C in heat treating furnace 5 of a nonoxidizing atmosphere, and after activating the side to be galvanized in reducing furnace 6 of a hydrogen gas atmosphere strip 4 is passed through molten Zn bath 7 in a reducing or nonoxidizing atmosphere to galvanize the activated side alone. The carbon of anti-galvanizing agent is removed with brushing roll 9. Thus, a one-side galvanized steel strip is manufactured.
