表1における審美的な格付けを決定するために、1枚のフィルムサンプルをライトテーブル上に置き、その外観を、ミネソタ州セントポール(St. Paul)のスリーエム社(3M Company)から BEF 2 及び BEF 3 の商標標記で入手可能な従来の導光フィルムの外観と比べて、主観的に評価した。1の評価を BEF 2 に与え、5の評価を BEF 3 に与えた。

構造化された主表面を備える導光フィルムの第1のシートであって、前記構造化された主表面は、第1の主軸に沿って延びる複数のマイクロ構造を備え、各マイクロ構造は、
第1の領域及び第2の領域であって、前記第2の領域は、前記第1の領域に隣接し、マイクロ構造は、前記第1の領域における実質的に一定の高さ、及び、前記第2の領域における一定でない高さを有し、該一定でない高さの最大高さは、前記第1の領域の前記一定の高さよりも約0.5〜約3マイクロメートル高く、前記第1の領域と前記第2の領域とは相似する横断面形状を有する、第1の領域及び第2の領域、
を備える、第1のシートと、
実質的に平坦な表面と、前記実質的に平坦な表面の反対側の構造化表面と、を有する導光フィルムの第2のシートであって、前記実質的に平坦な表面は、導光フィルムの前記第1のシートの前記構造化表面に隣接し、導光フィルムの前記第2のシートの前記構造化表面は、前記第1の主軸に対しておおよそ垂直な第2の主軸に沿って延びる複数のマイクロ構造を備え、前記第1のシートと第2のシートとの間の光結合が、主に前記第2の領域において発生する、第2のシートと、
